I have been lurking now for a few weeks in this forum, and have been doing my own research outside of the forum. It seems to me that almost everyone here has their own agenda. Really, most of you are selling on eBay or somewhere else. I just don't know who I can trust for authenticating online Hermes.
I guess what I am trying to say is .... how do we know the purse forum member who is saying a bag is authentic is not same eBay seller who is selling the bag? Or the forum member saying the bag is fake is not just trying to cut down on the competition on ebay? I don't know.... just a thought......
I may just wait for my bag direct from the Hermes store

I would say because of all the other members. Checks and balances. Soemone will pipe up about it and after all, people on this site are generally here to help you, not dupe you. That's my assessment.

Same sentiments here mybagz! Been lurking on the Authenticate this forum as well and not wanting to offend anyone here....but I've seen:

1) Authentics being very quickly screamed on as eg. FAKES! Run! until a better expert comes along and the one who scream fake back paddles (by then I feel it could have ruined a good seller's reputation if whoever was reading the thread missed or didn't come back again to read the correction) That's really unfair I feel.

2) Fakes as authentics. (same scenario^^ )

3) Remarks that are somewhat unnecessary which ends up insulting newbies to Hermes who really want to learn. Of course, sometimes these remarks are unintentional and don't mean to hurt anyone, but really often it sounds like the newbie is being made to feel stupid for asking.

I'm sure this forum started and IS still with all the good intentions of helping others BUT it's also dangerously becoming a gossip column with "cult" thing going on.

If 2 of us already feel the same way...I wonder how many more lurkers and newbies there are out there who from after reading the threads don't even dare ask anything now....

Anyway...just my early-morning-before-coffee sentiments so hope no one's offended.

I am not a eBay reseller or seller of any sort.
I have found tpf members to bend over backwards being helpful.
I also have found that tpf goes out of its way not to "sell" its members things in the threads and route out any bad resellers - in fact, I have not seen a fake reseller on tpf as a member during my 6 mo membership other than a past one.
The few misunderstandings (that you label "insults") that I have read have always had a "I'm sorry" posted visably in the same thread.
Yes, you are right that love for Hermes thing can verge on a "cult"-like following.
Moreover, the members do become good friends and take a genunine interest in each other. Stay around and you will find that that positive attention will be directed to you too Mybagz and Where&howmuch.
Some of our longest members do as you say Mybagz and "wait for [their] bag direct[ly] from the Hermes store" for authentication and price reasons.
Stay around and get to know us.

Hi Sus. I'm not feeling any negative attention towards me...don't get me wrong. Few times I've asked questions here (not authentication though) I've always had very kind and nice people answer and help. There ARE nice people here of course.

Like I said, it's one of those " I can't help but think" type of sentiments...early in the morning may I add.

I felt compelled to agree with mybagz cos I have on times (very rarely though) felt that (from what I read) there is some members have some sort of hidden agenda and wondered how many others felt the same way.

Maybe it's the way things are written, answered or how persistently one member is targetting only one or two sellers.

Anyway, don't want to open a can of worms. Just saying my half cent worth. I DO feel the lurrrve in here and I've learnt a few things here and then....so I'll definitely still be sticking (lurking) around.

Please don't think that I do not want to be part of this board. I am so happy I have found others who have the same interests as me!!!! I have just noticed a few things that kinda got to me. However much more good than bad. I do believe that most people are here for the same reasons as I am and I really can't wait to get to know everyone.

Yes, this is what I was thinking.... hidden agendas
But hey I'm learning my stuff and I already know I can trust most of you just by what i have read by all your past posts. Glad to know I am not the only one who feels this way....

Let me say this please: when members weigh in as to whether a bag is authentic or not- that is purely an expression of opinion. You can then either accept that opinion, get another opinion, or simply disregard it for whatever your reason. We have a lot of members here who do not sell anything, (including myself) but are here purely for the love of handbags, and the friendship we have developed amongst eachother. I have been a part of this community for over a year, and I must say that the ones who have alterior motives are always exposed because they either cannot help themselves or they slip up. Either way, we can spot a troll a mile away.

One thing is absolutely for sure- the members here bend over backwards to welcome new members and to give their opinions and advice about bags. In fact, I have seen numerous resellers actually help their competition out of respect. And if you or anyone sees anything (or an opinion about a bag) that you think is unwarranted, then by all means please express your thoughts because the more information that is out there, the better this place will be.

I welcome both (Where&HowMuch and mybagz) of you with open arms, and hope you have as rewarding an experience here as I have!

It's difficult...sometimes..... to cover all nuances precisely in writing .. especially in a conversational forum. The smilies do help

I've been reading this forum for a while too and joined because I was impressed by its community spirit and the generally - and sincerely - helpful sentiments of its members.

With regards to members' recommendations and your remarks that they sometimes focus on one or two particular sellers - can I offer the following thought?

As a buyer, I'm a loyal, repeat customer - with any brand/store/seller. When I find someone I like and trust, and the experience with them is always great, I want to build the relationship. The store/seller also feels the same way. It keeps getting better from there - for both sides. And I always recommend those stores, sellers or sales assistants to my friends, so they can benefit. It's literally a handful of names - I like long-lasting relationships. So perhaps that's why some sellers are recommended repeatedly on this forum - because they reliably provide their customers with exactly what they need and want, and those customers - out of enthusiasm - pass on the names.

Just my opinion...

I just want to say thank you to all you ladies and gentlemen who give freely of their time on this forum to help authenticate these bags which we have very little chance of ever seeing in person in most Hermes stores. Plus you all do this free of charge! What else could you ask for!

While I did buy my first H Birkin in the store, I was able compile a list of reputable sellers I would have gladly bought from if I wasn't successful in the store. So at the risk of sounding repetitive, mucho appreciated and thanks a grande! (too bad there's no gratitude smiley)

This is a bit of a semi-duplicate post, but after considering I think this is the right subthread to put it into. Has anyone dealt with jennzcloset? I did a search here and only found one comment, but it wasn't conclusive. She always has lovely things listed, has 99.9% positive feedback, but other than that, no info. Help, please? Thank you!

The whole princess birkin debacle got me started looking at eBay feedback, wondering what I bought from whom. It looks like I bought something from yourchariot last summer - an H scarf, I'm guessing - but this seller isn't on our recommended or to-be-avoided lists despite selling an abundance of items that look to be authentic Hermes.

Has anyone else had any dealings with yourchariot? I'm very tempted by a few of the scarves!

If you have a personal issue with any member here, why don't you have the guts to contact me first before you dare try that again.
