Please Girls, help me with this eBay listing:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Auth-HERMES-BIRK...QQcmdZViewItem

The Hermès stamp looks different.
And the text says it's been refurbished in Paris by Hermès. However, it has a "shooting star", doesn't this mean Hermès will not service it ?

TIA

If I were you, I would go to one of the reputable sellers and get a Birkin from them and be SURE to have the real thing. This bag that you list here would be too much of a gamble for me.

Thanks so much, I've retracted my offer. You are definitely right, better to wait and buy from a boutique rather than take a gamble :-) and end up with a dud !!!

The shooting star means it was made by an Hermes craftsman and was meant to be used as a gift or for their own personal use. Hermes does not work on these bags and they are not meant to be sold to anyone.

Many thanks DS.

The seller is on the reputable list, so I assume the bag is ok ? Looks nice, and I like the slightly worn look.

We have also heard that Hermes WILL work on these bags, after a time has passed. While in theory, the bags would be worked on by the craftsman, they do change hands, understandably, as gifts or donated to charities, etc. Unfortunately, we cannot search, but IIRC, someone asked Claude if they could be worked on and the answer was yes. I could be wrong about who asked what, and truthfully there are a several opinions on this....it is definitely something we wonder about and we have heard varying policies on it...it could differ by store or region, even.

If you are interested in a shooting star bag, i would say that it would be wise to either ask your own store what their policy is, phone NY or BH and speak to Claude or Manuela, or, just know that it is a grey area and take extra care of the bag, just in case.

And count on the question arising again if you were to want to resell the bag.

Oh, and the most important thing....The bag is authentic, MrsV.

ETA, I would hazard a guess, and it is just a guess as I do not know him personally, but if this seller says it was sent to H, it was. Just my .02. It definitely looks like it has been serviced, a nice bag.

Bag is good.

Check the prices thread for the current prices....I am not up on exotics pricing, but generally, this seems fairly priced ... Do wait for others to speak to price on this, or check that thread.

Totally agree CB! Seller is good and a bag that age is likely to have been serviced at Hermes even with a shooting star. Nice bag and not a bad deal at all.
