xiaoxiao, please provide more details of how you were approached? PLEASE. If you wish, please PM a mod if a tPFer is involved. I would greatly greatly appreciate it. I hate scammers coming here and taking advantage of tPFers behind the guises of a registered name here.

This was awhile ago... Before I knew about this forum, and learned a lot about H through here. I was browsing on craigs' list to look up stupid things, and I wanted to see what would come up if I type in "Hermes". And this particular listing came up. It was offered at $7 K, which was my first doubt - way too cheap for an almost new condition! But I email'd that person anyway. She was very helpful, and very responsive. It seemed like she anticipated the question already, KWIM? She then told me she's an SA there, and how it would cost her her job if they found out blah blah blah. So I told her, fine, let's go to Hermes together, and sent to the spa. And she actually agreed, and told me to meet at Rodeo Drive Hermes. Since I don't live there, I say I can't do that - thought you were in New York...

I don't know why I suddenly remembered this (probably because we were talking about super fakes) , and thought to have it authenticated here.... So that's how I came to have those pix.

PS: Who is this person who made this offer to you? A tPFer?
I saw the two different leathers before I even saw the post! Wow, that is nerve! Especially the story about working for Hermes!

Apparently the scammers have decided that using photos of not just different bags, but different leathers constitutes a new, viable form of trickery--see page 97--bag auction posted by techstep that I commented upon--similar situation...
GRRRR!!!

xiaoxiao, do you remember the city the bag was listed in (craigs list)? I am just curious but the town next to me has posted many fakes on craig's list. TIA

Actually, I think it shows how stupid the scammers think the rest of us are. The arrogance of doing such a thing! We are so dumb we won't see that they are using pics of different bags?

BTW, please correct me if I am wrong, but most of the bags that are being shown to us in "private transactions" are fakes or the seller is deceitful in some way. Should we continue to address situations like this? I am feeling that they are a waste of time. I think that any time a person is approached, "buyer beware" is ipso facto.

Sounds like a great opportunity to set up a sting and have her/him popped for selling a fake....unless the intention was to conk you over the head and steal your money outright...i wish there was a way to turn this over to the authorities.

Yep, GK, that was my attempt at sarcasm...

I think all private transactions with an unknown seller should be considered suspect unless proven otherwise. I am sorry if this puts honest folks at a disadvantage but the climate is such that we just can't be safe enough.

Ha Ha! your sarcasm flew right over my head

Honest folks just have to get it thru their heads that no one is out there to do you a "personal" favor and give an authentic bag away for nothing. Buyer Beware.

It was originally posted in LA, but she also posted it in New York to increase the chance i think... Esp if you don't live by her then there is no way to verify it... Especially at that time (and even now), I am not familiar with the looks of different leathers. For example there were two leather types and I didn't even notice it until you guys pointed it out to me! I am SOOOOOO glad to be here!!!

And oh do you want to know the most outrageous thing? She claimed she's a fair square trade member, meaning I could return it if the item is fake (which, she claimed it's not a problem at all). It's really bad that people like that using methods like that to scam people!
