Default A little interesting math...

A regular scarf (36" x 36"), $375 - $0.289 per square inch of silk
Vintage scarf (28" x 28"), $295 - $0.376 per square inch of silk
Cashmere shawl (56" x 56"), $950 - $0.302 per square inch of silk/cashmere
Cashmere scarf (36" x 36"), $560 - $0.432 per square inch of silk/cashmere
Twilly (33" x 2"), $125 - $1.894 per square inch of silk (!)
Pocket square (16" x 16"), $125 - $0.488 per square inch of silk
Triangle scarf & Losange (I have no idea on dimensions, so if you do, please let me know!)
Fringed silk scarf (7" x 83"), $640 - $1.02 per square inch of silk
Cotton scarf (28" x 28"), $0.319 per square inch of cotton
Cashmere stole (25" x 71"), $820 - $0.462 per square inch of cashmere/silk

A regular scarf is 65 grams, or 0.14330047 pounds. A pound of H silk costs ~$1965.00, so the raw materials required for one scarf is already $281.59.

Explain this to DH or anyone else who says the scarves are not worth it, or that you should've bought a "smaller size" .

Back to AP calc....

Interesting... I would be shocked if that's the actual cost they pay though -- I suspect there's some bulk discount? Plus, that kind of margin for a luxury good just seems off.

mattking2000 - this is hilarious and very creative. perhaps you could do the same with bags? would that help or hurt the H lust? probably wouldn't matter to my decisions i think

Hmmm, the profit margin does seem a little bit low for H, and I haven't even calculated wages! I read it originally on http://old-fashion-design.blogspot.c...erms-silk.html but it seems to trace back to wikipedia.... oops!

Perhaps this was the retail price of a pound of scarves back when it used to cost $280? (Can anyone remember such a time...?)

Hmmm - that would mean just I should just buy more 90cm and fewer twillies to be cost effective!

I would just like to correct the math for the twilly, you have to double the dimensions, as it's folded.
