She is a mini 18cm, so if it rains when she is out, perhaps she is easier to protect. Or maybe Chamonix is more water resistant than box, so nothing required.

Oh I have always wondered about spit and polish, once I actually did try spit on a pair of boots!!

Spit-polsih is an armed forces term , and yes it does use spit in the absence of H2O
In any case, I have used both O & B on Charmonix without issue...butI say always test a small hidden area when you first use a product on your bag and wait a few hours...make sure you like the results before you continue on and teat the whole bag

All the products on your list are just fine to use and fairly easy to use. and yes, the B&O will give you some weather protection esp the Obenauf LP Heavy duty and the other products will continue the darkening process..the mink oil paste and the Obenauf's LP Heavy Duty give the super high water resistance, the oils and saddle Baume will give the most darkening. I hope this helps:o)

Also, you need not use the expensive Hermes saddle baume and saddle oil you can use a good mink oil paste (thick fatty product not oily one) and Just make sure it does NOT have silicone in it, and then in stead of Hermes saddle oil you can use Neatsfoot oil or Obenauf oil. OK? make sure you apply evenly and rub the bag down in between applications with a nice soft lint free fluffy old towel or flannel cloth.

You can buy all of the (non Hermes )products from www.workingperson.com Blackrock,Obenauf, neatsfoot oil, mink oil, bear grease etc...

www.Shoetreemarketplace.com has Mink oil,Fiebings Neatsfoot oil Or you can buy these in your hardware store or feed store or sporting goods store
www.obenaufs.com has Obenuafs LP Heavy Duty and Obenauf's Oil
Blackrock leather N rich can be bought on ebay
Hermes saddle Baume,Saddle oil,and Leather milk can now be purchased on www.Hermes.com

thanks doc for all the info.
since the i am ordering products specifically for this project; aside from the b & o which i worked with before and was very happy- which would you prefer? are the h products superior and would i work the leather milk into the rotation? which of the h products contribute to the water protection aspect of the process like the obenaufs?

sorry for so many questions i just like to understand the process.

Nothing by Hermes compares to Obenauf's LP Heavy duty, the Hermes products are expensive not necessarily better ... they smell nice..they put some almond scent in them... all the oils contribute to water resistance. I do not think you shuld use the Hermes milk product..it's more of a cleaner.

Hi, Everyone is welcome as far as I am concerned
may I ask is the glazing still present on your bag? Do you still want it to be uber shiny when you are finished conditioning it?

Hi Doc!

I have a indigo barenia picotin, can I use Blackrock on it for overall protection first? Thank you very much!

Blackrock does not offer much in the way of protection, it will also change your Barenia's hand feel...what are you wanting to do exactly? Is it a new bag or an old one? Standing by...

New Barenia can be allowed to dry naturally if it's well conditioned (it should be beacause it's new)if the spots are there after it's dry then just hand rub to rid water spots. Barenia does not need water shedding conditioner added,it is already an oil saturated leather...hand rubbing brings the oils to the surface. If you still want it to shed water like a duck then you can use Obenuaf's LP Heavy Duty(however it will change the hand feel).

Hi Doc, it is amazing to see all the transformation you have done, it's like magic!

and now i have a bit of problem of my own, wanting to see if you can help me out here.

I recently bought a vintage Box Jige from a very good seller, but when it arrived, i noticed that there's a 1CM crack on the bottom of the bag,and it looks like the crack might deepen even by just handling it! and there are a few areas that looks like about to crack open also.!we dont' have a craftsman in Oz, so it will take 4-6 months for it to be spaed, and i heard that cracks on leather cannot be repaired anyway.

So i am wondering, what is the best thing to do here? I luv the bag, and i dont mind it to have little blemishes, but i do worry that the condition may get worse, coz it's farily dry here down under. What is the best way to treat the problem so that it does not get worse? and what should i do to prevent cracking on other parts of the bag? thank you in adavance for your help.

hi doc- i have been admiring the lv sofia copola cobalt calf bag. i haven't been able to find any info on this leather re: durability etc. would it need to be treated? it seems sort of textured. would it behave similarly to a clemence?

do you know anything about the leather used in the sc bag?
thanks-

Hi,Looks like that's a cut not a crack, the rest of the bag looks good from here...I think you should just condition the whole bag with some good conditioner..woly, saphir, meltonian. Now the cut could left alone or be repaired with some leather filler and then polished over....I doubt Hermes would do this...you can buy leather repair kits on line...a little daub should do the trick.
