THANK YOU EVER SO MUCH for this thread HG and everybody who contributes! The YKK zipper REALLY surprised me, also the fact that some zipper pulls hardware was in one piece and not two jointed ones (can't explain it better).
I just love learning about vintage pieces!

Sure do need some help identifying my 'new' vintage Hermes bag which came home with me from Paris last week. I think it is magnificent, and the embossed logo is, according to this site, pre-1959. But I don't know when these were made or what the model is called. Anyone out there have expertise enough to help me out with this beautiful bag? I'm new to the site and have posted the pics on a couple of different forums. I'm not sure if I've got it where it will find some response, though. If you can even direct me to someone who will know about the bag, I'd be greatly appreciative. It's pristine, black with crimson leather interior, everything is maker marked 'HERMES' appropriately. It has a purse-like top and a hinged cosmetics and travel items 'box' as the bottom, 2 locks and both original keys. I've posted photos on a couple of other strings, but don't know my way around the site very well and don't see how to add some to this posting. I can send photos directly if possible, though. It's 13.25" x 6.75" at the base of the bag, and is 12" tall when opened, plus the handle. No shoulder strap or anything - looks like a travel bag/purse. Private message is a great way to reply to my rather specific question, if possible. Thank you so much for your time and expertise. A dedicated Louis Vuitton collector who is 'stepping out' a bit with HERMES - I LOVE this bag! Susan

^^^^It's actually a sac mallette. She had posted the same question on a separate thread and it was answered.

I have an A-stamp bag with no circle, production year 1945, but it has the HERMES PARIS stamp that shows below was only used from 1959-1970. Any thoughts?

Hermes labels throughout the years. Please scroll down the page to find the Hermes listings:

Hermes stamps:
This stamp appeared on bags approximately before 1959 (please don't quote me on this as I've encountered conflicting reports as to the exact year)

This stamp appeared after the previous label was retired and was used until approximately 1970:

The current stamp (Please note this is natural stamp and appears on some leathers such as chamonix, vache natural, and in this case peau porc lisse. It is usually done to match the hardware):

H zipperstop (First appeared in 2001 and not found in all bags):

Hermes zippers:
From a bag purchased in 1960:

From bag made in 1979:

From bag made in 1992:

Current year:

You know, LoveH, I learned that recently myself. So I may have to make a correction.

I don't see an accent over the e, but I see them on new H bags. Is the lack of an accent particular to this specific "natural" stamp?

I've seen it not appear on modern bags too. Remember, even the stamps are applied by hand so expect a wide variation in stamps especially on textured leather.
