Depends if they are in or not.

If your teeth are in, it's no big deal.

I had my lowers removed a couple weeks ago. (They were in) I was fine the next day.

My daughter had hers removed, but they weren't grown in all the way yet.
She needed a good week to recover, and couldn't eat for a few days.

I was put to sleep because my teeth were impacted so they had to break them apart and they were growing in weird.

I remember being numb and wanting pudding but it was dripping down my chin. It's not that bad. You'll be drinking liquids and eating soft foods for about 2-3days and then you'll be normal.

I believe your doctor will give you something to relax with just before he puts you out. You will be uncomfortable for about 2 days, and then your jaw will just be sore for about a week, but every day it will get better. Plus, you might be swollen after surgery, so do what the doctor tells you to do about icing down the area. The main thing to remember is NEVER ever spit (which you will want to right after surgery) because you'll just have a lot of saliva going on in there. A clot needs to form in the socket for the healing process to begin, and that will take about 48 hours, so just don't spit or drink anything from a straw. Stick to soup....just don't slurp it. The main thing is to avoid a dry socket, which is what will happen if the clot comes out. The healing stops, and you'll have to go back to your doctor to have him put medication in there. Big hassle. Also, stay away from juices that contain acid, like orange or grapefruit. Drink apple juice or grape juice. Good luck. I had all four done at the same time and so that was my experience. You'll do fine.

I had mine out a long time ago (I was 19), and opted to save $$$ by not being put to sleep!! It took forever!! Going to sleep is definitely the way to go!!

are you getting all 4 taken out??? I only had top (i was born without the bottom), and they were both fully impacted and removed. It really wasn't that bad, I was maybe out of it for 2 days and that's it. And for those 2 days I was on pain killers so i slept through them.

I was put to sleep; it really does not feel like anything. I remember getting laughing gas and then all of a sudden I was ready to be taken home.

I've heard it's much less painful if your molars aren't grown in all the way; I can't really say much from experience. My top molars were half-way grown in and my bottom molars were kinda peeking out. After removal, I couldn't make myself eat for the entire day. However, the next day, I was okay and I ate solid foods (I don't recommend it, though; I was just being gutsy and dumb, hahaha). My sister, though, didn't really recover until a full week. She had the chubby cheeks and everything...and I think her molars were less developed than mine. So, it really depends on the person and how fast your mouth will heal.

I have had 15 teeth pulled and have never been put out for any of them. Only local novacain. The last 4 teeth I had pulled were my 4 wisdom teeth that were all impacted so they had to bust them up and take them out in pieces. The prior 11 teeth were pulled when I was in 3rd - 4th grade and were all baby teeth to prepare me for getting braces. But, trust me, they still had all their roots and it wasn't any fun.

I found that my friends that were put out in order to have teeth pulled had far more bruising and took a lot longer to heal than I did. I got my wisdom teeth pulled on a Wednesday and went to a hockey game by Friday. My philosophy is that if you aren't put under to have your teeth pulled, then the dentist has to be more gentle because you can tell him when it hurts. If you are put under, you wouldn't know if they were kneeling on your chest and wrenching around in your mouth, because you would be asleep. I DEFINATELY recommend that you just get a local and do NOT get put under.

I had a horrible experience with mine. I had them out last July. All 4 of them and 2 were really impacted. I wasn't put to sleep so I remember everything. They had to break one of them and give me more novacaine twice because it wasn't coming out. I was in pain for about a week and couldn't eat. I swelled up on one side only, really attractive! The only thing I could eat was macaroni and cheese because I could just slurp it down! I am really happy I got it done and I lost 8 pounds during the process so that was good!

i wasn't put to sleep, i just breathed the gas the entire time... and i will tell you..... that surgery was AWESOME. it was like i was in a dream the whole time... couldn't feel a thing... i could respond if they asked me a question but i'm sure i looked and sounded like i was super doped up.

now i'm weird and i can't swallow pills... so... afterwards for pain medication i had to drink like a whole entire bottle of childs motrin. which tasted pretty good! i had swelling for probably a week and the next day i was eatting cheese curds (however it took me about 30 - 45 min to get through the batch cause it hurt to chew).

as long as you don't have any complications like dry sockets or infection you'll be fine!

11 teeth in 3rd grade!!! you poor thing. I got two teeth pulled out at six years old and scared me for life, I remember crying so much because of the pain (it did hurt like hell and the dentist though I was faking it ), there was also a lot of blood. They were scared of me dying because of a heart condition I have . I am so glad I never got wisdom teeth, I kept thinking they were gonna come out but at 28 I am not worry anymore.

My husband got his pulled out last year, he kept waking up from the anesthecia, the surgeon said it was because his metabolism is too fast. He was in mayor pain because he got dry sockets, you will be fine if you follow the discharge instructions and do as they say. Good luck

I have had adult teeth removed under general anesthetic three times now. It's really not a big deal. You're completely out and usually feel just a little woozy when you wake up (last time I woke up from it I felt really cold and I was shivering like crazy but they said that's pretty common). Usually you'll also be numbed with novocaine which takes a few hours to wear off. You will feel stiff, swollen, and sore for a few days, a week at most. The pain is worst the first day or two. For me, it's never been so bad that a couple Tylenol won't do the trick. I avoid taking the painkillers they perscribe me because they are often vicodin or codeine which make me nauseous. Plan to stay in bed the first day or two- you won't feel like doing much else! I ate lots of yogurt and pureed soup (like potato leek). Don't drink from a straw, don't suck on anything, etc. Don't spit, make sure you buy lots of extra gauze at the drugstore. Roll it up and bite down gently to absorb the blood and drool. The dentist will give you some gauze and will put gauze in your mouth, but I find it helps to have extra at home, that way you don't have to spit it out and risk a dry socket. Ice your face to help the swelling.
It's really not that bad, so don't stress out too much. Getting teeth removed is no fun but a lot of people do it and it's really not risky or anything much to worry about. Good luck!

I was sedated when they removed mine. I was really frightened because I hate needles, but once it was in I was out cold until they woke me up. I had no pain or swelling afterwards.

I got mine (all 4) out 2 weeks ago yesterday - June 6. Really, it wasn't that bad. I've only had 1 of the "holes" give me a problem - my bottom left - and I'm still using an occasional vicaprophen for it - but the other 3 sites are doing beautifully - with the holes just now closing. I was knocked out for mine - thankfully - and woke up all woozy and bloody - but the first day wasn't bad at all. The entire experience was more annoying and daunting than painful. I had minimum swelling that you wouldn't notice unless you knew me well. Just make sure to keep rinsing with salt water because after the stitches are removed/dissolve you have 4 pretty large holes in your mouth - which get crap in them and can easily cause infection.

As far as eating, I ate matzah ball soup pretty much exclusively for a straight week.
