Please do not use a sunbed, they are lethal! If you need to tan then fake it! A natural tan fades so quickly & you pay the price in skin damage! I would never ever use a sunbed!

Why damage skin for a tan? Years down the road, you'll be thankful you didn't speed up the aging process. Tans aren't forever, your body is (until you die).

I used to tan in a bed at least every other day and lately I go MAYBE once every other week it seems. I also do the Mystic Tan occasionally but if you are not already tan when you do it, it looks orangey and wierd.

lol, im sorry i meant sun screen.

All skins are different. Im a light skinned African American and I am recommended to tan to get my color back (i get lighter in the winter)

My mom is from the West Indies and is accustomed to being in the sun. So skin cancer isn't something that is common in my genes or anything like that. However, I do try and be careful especially being in the sun too long. It can give some damage.

I do mystic tan, and love it. I'm naturally olive/yellow so maybe it works better with my coloring. I'm still conscientious about sunbathing and wear anywhere from light sunscreen to full euro sunblock with a high PPD. Not so much because of cancer since I have the tougher greek skin (although, I still should be concerned), but after doing the tanning bed thing for years, I hit a certain age and suddenly the sun blotches didn't go away when the rest of may face had faded, as if the years of sunworshipping permanently damaged my skin and had to wear a heavier foundation in those areas after that. Between that and eliminating melasma, it finally went away but it was horrible while it lasted. I've loosened up a bit on covering up, but I don't lay out without super block now, and will not do tanning beds since that seemed to be responsible for most of the permanent damage. I'd be afraid the years of hard work in getting back to normal would be reversed since i can still see it a bit if I'm in the sun longer than usual.

I tan in a tanning bed atleast once a week just to keep my color. I know its bad for yoy, but I do it anyways. I just love the way I look with a nice base tan.

I have to say, one of my roomates in college was a light skinned African American girl, and she died from malignant melanoma. See, she developed an area on her foot, and it was misdiagnosed because she was a woman of color and the doctors figured it must be something else. By the time they figured it out, it had progressed to her lymph nodes and she died 8 months later. So, I agree that genetically, you are not at risk like some of us, it can happen!

It was a nice gesture for your husband to get a tanning bed installed in your house for you, but at the same time, maybe you would be better off even hiring someone to come to your house and spray tan you every week? Ok, I know some tanning salons do house calls, and if you look around you can hire a tanning specialist to tan you at your house every week or so. I know that sounds like too much trouble, but in the end, you'll be tan and you won't be at risk.
