Default Very irritable lately & high anxiety

And no I'm not taking any type of drugs, LOL But for since last night I feel as though my body is going to jump out of my skin. I occassionally take Advil PM to help me fall asleep (ever since my RX of Zanax ran out). I took one last night & I it made me tired like it should but boy I had the hardest time settling down. I felt like I was going to jump out of my skin and still feel like that today somewhat. I have no idea why. I have anxiety a lot but this is way worse. Anyone else ever experience anything like this?

Do you think your body is relying on sleep meds? Have you tried sleep remedy which is not a prescription and suppose to be better for you. Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't that the same as Ativan in Canada?

I'm not familiar with Ativan. No cause I only take it once or twice a month (the Advil PM). I haven't taken any Xanex in over 6+ months. I never got it refilled cause I thought it was best not to. Maybe my anxiety is just working overload right now for whatever reason.

Hi,

Have you ever tried Benadryl (diphenhydramine) before? Double check, but I believe that might be in Advil PM. It's what's responsible for the "PM" component.... however, in some people, benadryl/diphyenhyramine actually gives the reaction you're describing.... just a thought. But, if you've safely taken benadryl before, then I don't think it's the Advil PM making you feel like that. I just thought I'd send this in case it's helpful. I hope you feel better!!!

Hi, I dealt with this for over a year. Have you had an actual anxiety/panic attack? (I went to the hospital for one, thinking I was dying...it's really scary.) After the panic attack, I continued to have anxiety like what you describe. I found that really paying attention to my breathing (I was holding my breath a lot) and relaxing my muscles (I was getting REALLY tense without realizing it) helped. The main thing, for me, was to read about anxiety and realize that it's really in your mind, even though you feel like you're losing your mind and that your body is out of your control.

Is there something that triggered this for you? In my case, I was in a very dangerous situation, and it really seemed to spin my world around for awhile afterward -- although I didn't make the connection right away. Two years later I'm finally just about back to normal.

Look in to Dr. Bach's RESCUE REMEDY on the web. It is great for anxiety. You can get it at most health food stores and some drug stores. My nutritionist told me about it years ago and now so many of my friends use it too with great results.

Thanks! I'll look it up tonight. I'd prefer something like this instead of a drug anyway.

I've never taken Benadryl but I have taken the Advil PM many times before (and I don't mean on a regular basis, just every so often 3-4 times a month to help me sleep).

I'm feeling about 80% better.

I'm glad to hear you're feeling better. I have anxiety and have had panic attacks. People who have never had anxiety (not just feeling nervous) can't imagine what it feels like. You said it--you feel like you're going to jump out of your skin.

Sending calming thoughts to you and I hope you find what's behind it so it can be treated properly.

Well, try making sure you get enough exercise first, but several hours before bedtime, you know?

Then, i would stay away from the xanex, and rather use Ambien which is actually for sleep. We all get this from time to time and it seems sometimes life just goes this way.

i hope you feel better soon and things begin to calm down. xxoxo

I give my Bassets Rescue Remedy all the time! I haven't used it myself, but I should try it on a high anxiety day!

You could always try (I know you don't want to try drugs) a small dose of Ativan. A LOT of people use this to take the edge off but it doesn't make them zombies like some anti-anxiety meds do.

PS) don't take too much of those NSAID PM meds - you'll create liver problems or ulcers if you use it for extended periods of time.

Ambien has been mentioned, but there's also Lunesta, which doesn't cause the "hangover" effect.

what do you mean after your rx of xanax ran out?
that is probably why .. where you perscribed? did you choose to get off?

if you dont do it gradually. .. like half a pill than a quarter .. thats exactlly whats gonna happen

i used to take lexapro when i was in high school

and just one day i decided to stop ... for the next 2 weeks i couldnt find a comfortable spot .. i couldnt sleep i was always anxious

maybe you should speak to your doctor about this

I felt very much like the OP, and also, like the PP. I was diagnosed to need to be on Lexapro and Xanax.

The xanax doesn't make me tired, it just makes me calm.

I gained 14 lbs on the Lexapro, I was upset, so the doc weaned me off and everything seems ok. I am on something else with the Xanax that works.

Like the PP said, you cannot stop these meds suddenly, without doctor's supervision, or you will feel like you are jumping out of your skin.

Ativan is an absolute life saver for me. I take the smallest dose, and ONLY when I really need it. When I am feeling super anxious, the ativan "ramps" me down, and I don't start spinning out into panic attack level anxiety.

To the OP, I do sympathize... anxiety sucks! I would say that if you consume a lot of caffeine, perhaps look at cutting back, that may help.

Good luck!
