It's sounding good so far, Merika. I know it's so hard, but try not to stress. I worried so much over my lump, but it turned out to be okay.

Merika, this is a bit of information, but I will share

Can you feel the lump yourself? If so, what they told you is right, about the edges etc. With a fibroadenoma, benign tumor, it typically is not attached to your body but rather 'floating' in your breast. I was told by my Dr that cancerous tumors have rugged edges and attach to your body. Am I making sense?

I have a fibroadenoma in my left breast. I found it when I was young, 21, and I had an ultrasound on it. I can clearly feel it now, and the Dr was able to explain and I can feel that it is a solid mass but very clean edges (almost feels like a perfect oval).

Just wanted to share some info. Good luck, keep us posted!

I can't feel it - I don't believe my doctor felt it either, though she wrote "fibrocystic breasts" on the request sheet for the mammogram.

This is helpful to all of us. Breast health information is something all women need to know. Thanks, Megs and Merika for sharing.

This translates grossly/roughly to 'lumpy breasts', which are also very normal. I think a large amount of women have cystic breasts. So that most likely is a very different feeling from a tumor like the one I have

It is important as women to get to know your breasts. Feel them, feel all the way around them, and get acquainted. Make sure to do your breast check at the same time every month, because your breasts will change throughout your cycle. I actually write down in a journal what I feel, where, etc, each month. It helps me be able to discuss with my Dr and keeps me much more informed about my body.

Do keep us posted Merika

Eeep!! So sorry. The thread had disappeared and I thought everyone had forgotten about me.

Thank goodness there's nothing wrong. I went for an ultrasound, they looked around but couldn't find anything. Then I was sent for a further mammogram (area specific). They still couldn't find anything.

The final consensus was that it was a cyst. Apparently some cysts appear and disappear during times of your menstrual cycle, and are harmless.

I was told however, that they recommended yearly mammograms for me.

Thanks for asking, Swanky!!! And thank you everyone who PM'd and held my hand throughout...

I wish every woman in the world had the resources to have a mammogram after they hit their mid-thirties. I have lost an aunt (she was in her 60s) and a school friend (who was in her 30s) to breast cancer.

Yay Merika - so pleased everything is ok.

Thank you for highlighting this sensitive subject. Only women over 50 have routine mammograms in the UK (unless family history indicates something else) I think it should be like smear (pap) tests every 3 years regardless of age.
