Default toe fungus...how do you treat them??

i had toe fungus right around the christmas...and didn't realized it until april.
i tried so many different methods...soaked in the listerines, vinegar, yeast infection (1day) cream. then i went to a health food store they recommended me the cream called vatum and one toe was healed. btw, the two big toes were infected (either from swimming or in spa). now this one on the right toe seems to be very persistent....i am using tea tree oil first and then apply the vatum. they stain my nail also. i want to get rid of it before summer really comes. bc i have heard nail polish would only make it worse.
any instant mircale formula/method out there? please help!!
TIA!!!

My doctor gave me a method using bleach and a roller paint tray. I will be trying it, and will post tomorrow on exactly what to do.

yes...when you put the nail polish on, the nail cannot breath so the bacteria underneath is sort of "protected" (like wearing a raincoat). the fungus needs the moist and warmth to grow.

There's pills you can take that'll work much more efficiently than anything you u put on the nail. I jammed my thumb between car doors a few yrs back. Now i have a faint blk vertical block on my thumb - doctor says its fungus from the injury. She prescribed me this pill (they have the generic version -so its cheaper and covered by insurance) and you're suppose to take it for 13 weeks.
Supposedly, the fungus in nails is actually deeply rooted so anything you put on a nail to get rid of the fungus probably wont do much good.
I forgot what it was called tho...I'll go home and check. But only thing is, If you have a weak liver you cant take it.

If the infection is deep enough, you might really need a pill so it can heal from the inside out. In the meantime, though, soak it in bleach. Clorox (or store brand) will work fine. Just keep it off the carpet, make sure your pants are rolled up, and don't use a towel you care about. In fact, I'd probably put the bleach in a cake pan or something, and then put it in the bathtub, then sit on the side of the tub and soak your foot, then you can rinse it off when you're done. 10-15 minutes/day should work fine. It won't hurt you.

illinirdhd - many thanks !!!!
not sure how deep the infection is...but it's only been less than 5~6 months...i don't want to do the pills b/c i don't want to burden my liver (i've been drinking a glass of wine almost everyday)....i want to try other ways b4 i harm my liver.
thanks again!! will report back.

Buy:
1. Paint roller tray
2. Clorox (unscented)
3. Orange sticks
4. Tea tree oil

Do this 3x per week:
1. Soak your toenails in a solution of 3 cups warm water to 3 capfuls of bleach (the paint tray allows you to submerge the toes only.
2. After soaking for 5-10 minutes, use the orange stick to scrape fungus from underneath nail.
3. Place 2 drops tea tree oil on edge of nail to prevent infection.
4. Repeat until fungus is gone.

It was suggested to me that I do this in my bathtub. Also, I was told that the pills only have approx. 30% success rate and can cause liver damage. There may also be an underlying cause for the fungus, and that may need to be addressed. Good luck, I hope this works for you!

i also wonder maybe it's b/c i wore this pair of boots during the winter...they were 1/2 size too small..and 4" heels.....i was told high heel/ill fitted shoes can cause fungus too....mn.....really don't know why/how i got it.
the fungus on my right tow now is very small....small than a rice but it just wouldn't leave me alone...

I have a little spot on my left toe right now. I didn't even notice until recently from removing nail polish. I'm not going to wear nail polish for a while I guess. I'll have to cover up with a band aid if I must wear open toe shoes. Heh. I'm trying mouthwash soaked cotton balls on my toe several times a day. I read a lot about Vick's vapor rub..may try that too. It's really cheap.

The vick's vapo rub can be used as an alternative to tea tree oil in preventing an infection, but it should be used with the clorox method mentioned above.

There are (2) easy fixes that I know of:
-Vic's Vapor Rub
-Oil of Oregano

For the Vapor Rub, just put it on the nail twice a day.
For the Oil of Oregano, just put it on the nail and under the nail as much as you can. It's a liquid and has a dropper. You can just put the tip of the dropper under the top of your nail, and that should be good enough. It's not hard to find. You'll just have to go to a health food store. It's great for a lot of things because it's anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-viral.

The pills worked well for my husband and my daughter. They did have to be monitored during the dosing.
