Default Swimming?

Hi everyone! Question - will swimming bulk up girls? I'm pretty tall but really don't want to end up bulking up - I think we all want the lean and long look

I've seen guys who are lean and long and they're swimmers, but I've also seen a lot of girls who are pretty bulky from swimming. Is that just a matter of diet or does swimming really bulk up girls?

I think it depends on your body and what sort of strokes you do.

I swam in high school so about 6 hours a day for 3 years. I was in excellent shape, very lean but not bulky. Others bulked up.

Only thing that got a tad bulky were my shoulders when I was swimming fly.

Do you want to swim just for recreation or competitively?

And how much you do. You really have to swim as much as someone who is training to be a competitive swimmer to develop a swimmer's body. Same with any other kind of exercise where people tend to look at those who are at a competitive or elite level as role models for a certain kind of physical development. Never mind that people often choose sports to excel at that they are genetically inclined to be good at.

It's genes and HOW MUCH YOU DO. Sorry for the caps, but I don't think it can be stressed enough.

any exercise can make you bulky or 2 'much' for a girl but it all depends on how much you do it just like bibounette97 said, thats what really matters youcan be constant but if you do too much then of course, when you do it for athletes you have to overload yourself in to that plus you will be able to tell when its too much body starts changing and there you will know the diff. you can stop also and just walk around, even though i know workin out in water its very helpful!

Swimming will probably not bulk you up. Think of all the olympic swimmers you see. They are usually long and lean - cuts the water better. I believe Gwen Stefani was a swimmer in HS, she's tall and slim.

I think you will tone and look great. Women are not made to bulk up without help.
