Start off by making small weight goals. Don't say 100 pounds! It will get to be too much.

Eat healthy, healthy as in if its man made, it's probably not good.

Exercise.

That's all there is to it.

Thanks :) I'm eating healthy, expercises at least three times a week and I've put aside a year or two for this project, so everything is about doing it "right". I've had enough of crash diets

Please don't ever dismiss your accomplishments by saying it is always easy at first. It ISN'T always easy, even in the first week or two, but you lost 3 lb! That's great!

My mom recently embarked on a weight-loss journey, and she refused to really accept that she had lost any weight until she hit about 20 lb. She just kept saying, "I'm sure the first week was just water weight" or "Well, I wasn't wearing a jacket at the weigh-in". It was always an excuse as to why she didn't think she had actually lost anything until she had to buy new pants because her old ones were falling down.

So hurray for a good and healthy start! Congratulations!

Thanks! I was away this weekend and I'm worried that I might have reset myself a week back in time (no access or time to work out), but I'll just start over again. I'm so determined to do this that I won't let it stop me

So, an update here since I haven't been very active these last two weeks due to travelling and a nasty cold. Anyways, when I was sick I ate little and unhealthy (I just generally lose my apetite when I'm sick so I had to force myself to eat something, and other times I just said "f it" and went and got some chocolate) so I was very worried that I had gained some weight and I had prepared myself mentally that I might had gained 2-4lbs at least, but when I got to my WI (I always weigh at the gym since I don't own a scale myself) I found out that I had actually lost 2lbs! I'm so reliefed! Still, I'm glad I'm back to hitting the gym every other day

^ Awesome! Glad you were able to get back on track.

I gotta recommend the book I'm using myself, called The Beck Diet Solution. I'm noticing myself thinking differently after just a few days. It's geared to those of us who have tried to lose weight in the past and failed, and who may have an unhealthy attitude toward eating and dieting in general. It gives you little assignments or new habits for each day. I like it so far! I'm only on Day 5 (I was able to do days 1-3 in one day, but the rest I'm doing on schedule) but so far so good. I like that it's not an actual diet (you pick your own... myself, I'm just tracking my food and exercise on sparkpeople and working on staying within a certain calorie range and eating healthier).

I like seeing these weight loss threads, they're so inspiring! We need our own little support group, especially since it can be hard to get in real life.

Good luck to you! And congrats on your current weight loss.

Excellent job, sweetlove! Believe me, I hae to lose 10 pounds, and do you think I can do it????? Even that amount is extremely hard. You have to remember to eat small meals all day long so that your metabolism is up. That was my mistake, to miss meals, like eating only lunch and dinner. It doesn't work. Now that I am actually eating low carb and low fat foods about 4 or 5 times a day in small amounts, I am actually seeing results. Doesn't it seem weird that you have to eat to lose weight?

And keep checking your thread often because you'll get a lot of encouragement here. You are not alone.

Thanks for the kind words and the book suggestion - I'm reading about it on amazon right now, and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna order it

I definitely think you can do 10 pounds I'm actually surprised I've even made it to 5lbs without relapsing into my old, bad habits, so I'm pretty glad I've come "this far" even though I have a lot left to lose.
And yeah, I totally agree that it is taking me some time getting used to eating smaller and healthier meals rather than three big and less healthy meals a day, so I'm still adjusting to that

I seriously believe that the comments in this thread is one of the reasons why I keep motivated, so your comments all mean so much to me

Great start!

I hope this doesn't come off as preachy, but it doesn't matter what the scale says (and I wouldn't step on the scale more than once a week), but how healthy you are and feel.

Good luck!!

Thanks!! I know what you mean about the scale, and if I feel that I look great weighing 20lbs more than my target I'll just stop there, but as for now I just like seeing the weight as an indicator of my progress (I still feel that I can't really tell that I've lost weight just by looking at my body).

Had my WI today - I've lost another 1.2lbs!! I think I may be starting to gain some muscle mass too though.
