Default Summer Sunburn Soothers: What do YOU use?

Silly me... I went to the beach yesterday without slathering on my sunscreen. My excuse? "I don't know where I left it." Yeah, rather than look for it, I walked my butt to the beach and spent an hour in the noon day summer sun.

So now, my cheeks and nose are red...and my shoulders, chest, and neck are sensitive and burnt looking. It'll deepen and then in a couple days it'll start to peel.

I have noticed if a apply aloe vera a couple times an hour the first day I'm burnt, it lessens the chance of peeling. But now I wonder if peeling is better or worse for the health of the skin?

What else is there? Will taking a tylonel or advil help?

I would suggest taking ibuprofin and applying aloe on the burned areas.

i would suggest the above (ibuprofen and applying aloe whenever you get a chance), but my friend's mother would put vinegar on my friend's burns. it stings a lot and smells, but it helps it heal much faster

I use aloe vera and if the burn is bad enough, the aloe vera with lidocaine (solarcaine is the brand). Motrin helps, because it reduces swelling. You can take Motrin and Tylenol at the same time, it works on different pain receptors.

Take an aspirin. It is a great anti-inflammitory, my dermotologist told me this trick many years ago when I got a bad burn, well, after he kicked my butt all over the room for laying out in the sun, that is.

I really like this Yogurt lotion by Korres (you can get it at Sephora). It is very soothing on a sunburn, I prefer it to Aloe lotions, I think it even helps heal the burn faster. Keep it in the fridge, it feels even better.

The yogurt lotion reminds me of when I was younger I got this really bad burn on my back, and my mom made me put yogurt on the burn I was so grossed out by this, but it actually worked pretty well!

I've moved on since then, and rarely have a burn, but when I find I've been out in the sun too long, I use Clarins After Sun Ultra Soothing Gel. I also find the Aloe Vera gel works really well (the kind you get at your drugstore), just stick it in the fridge and it feels so refreshing going on!

Aloe and then some noxzema after it soaks in. It's almost magical. Like ice fairies descending from above to gently blow on your red, sunburned skin.

Mmm... aloe with lidocaine.. I owed my life to this stuff on my birthday last year when I got horribly burnt in Hawaii.

This sounds really weird, but Vinegar is amazing on sunburn. Just pour it on a washcloth and it takes the sting out. But, then youre kinda stinky! But, for me, the stink is worth feeling better.

My mom always tells me to put tea bags on a sunburn. I don't know if it really helps, but it feels good. Be careful if you try it though. It will stain your clothing.

Yoghurt all the way! Trust me it aint pretty and doesnt smell amazing but it really really works. It will cool it down and soothe it alot. If you dont like that idea soak a washcloth with cold milk should be the same effect.
