A very fair-skinned person only needs about 20 minutes of sun exposure per day to get what you need. Again, the fast root is through your eyes, so no sunglasses (then slather on sunscreen after the 20 given your skintone). You can get that 20 minute with everyday errands if you don't drive alot.

One of my best friends has MS. It's tough illness so I wish you the best of health.

Thank you for the info! I do tend to shun the sun. But my dog and I have been trying to walk more when the heat permits. That should help.

Thanks to this thread, I picked up a Vit D supplement at the drugstore (there was a buy 1 get 1 free special on a liquid supplement) and started taking it. I hope that the next time I get my blood checked my Vit D will be in, or at least closer to, the healthy range. Thanks, lovehgss1, for starting this discussion and sharing info! I hope that all of us here are feeling better and taking steps to become healthier since this thread started.

My close friend recently went through kidney surgery. During a post op check up, blood tests determined she was well below vitamin D levels. She was around 18 too. She found that she was often very tired. She recently has been trying to spend more time outside by taking her dog on longer walks, reading outside, etc. I think she started to take a daily vitamin as well. I hope you start to feel better soon!

I have changed my diet to high in oily fish like Salmon and sardines. I haven't been back to my dr as yet. I plan on going soon. I took the 4 week megadose and now take a vit. d supplement a couple times a week. I have no more weakness or woozy episodes so I'm very pleased. Thanks.

In January, my vitamin D level checked out at 10. My doc prescribed a three month plan taking megadose twice a week. I felt better after a couple of weeks and lost about six pounds unintentionally. I also found that my hair started growing faster. I am not sure this has anything to do with my vitamin D levels but it was a nice surprise. I take a daily vitamin D tablet along with fish oil pills now.

Yep. I went to see an Endocrinologist for thyroid issues last Fall and turned out I was Vit-D deficient my levels I think were lower than yours somewhere around 12. She explained to me that the deficiency was causing the cramping I had been experiencing in my feet. I also had to take the VitD tabs 2 times a week.

My vitamin D level was at 20 at my last physical so I am now taking supplements daily. I probably won't have more bloodwork done for another month so I don't know if it's helping via the numbers, but I have seen positive changes in my energy levels - I'm no longer exhausted all the time.

Me! Prescription vit D twice weekly. But I was also low on thyroid hormones and severely a.emic. My doctor said she wondered how on earth I was walking much less functioning.

Im a lot better now but I took that for two years.

My thyroid is off at times, i've been diagnosed with borderline hyperthyroidism. I get some symptoms but don't take any meds because its only borderline. I am also anemic been this way since a teen. I get really really tired most days by the afternoon. Reading this thread reminded me to call my doc and get the results of my last vitd levels. I bet she'll have me continue taking it.

I had my thyroid completely removed back in 2007 and I just got to my appropriate level of synthyroid last year. I've been taking high does of iron supplements with vit C and that has improved my energy level/concentration tremendously - moreso than vit D..

THis is such a common thing try not to worry about it at all. The majority of the population in the northeastern US are "vitamin D deficient". I"m not kidding. My endocrinologist said she has yet to test anyone and find they weren't deficient.

Yup...exactly. 10-15 minutes with no sunscreen. That is what doctors suggest.

Got my results back from my doctor, my level is at 50 so i'm good now. She recommends I take an over the counter vit D sup which I am doing already with my calcium. I did notice that when I stopped the sup my energy dived, its so important for us to pay attention to things like this. I'm no Spring chicken anymore
