Question question for the ladies that do their own bikini waxing/brazilian

i want to try this. not a full wax though! just a regular one!

are their any good brands of waxes that you recommend for this?
i see so many bikini brands in the store and don't know which ones are best.

any prep techniques and tips?

I once tried do-it-yourself leg waxing and ended up dissolving a quarter-size piece of flesh

As for brazillian do-it-yourself it's hard enough to sit still and let someone else do it!!!

I really don't believe it's possible. I think everyone I know has tried this at least once (not brazilian but just even part of a wax) and every one has failed. Any brand you buy at a drug store is terrible. I tried the kind you put in the microwave and it's still in various parts of my bathroom. Impossible to get off and super messy.
One that I did try recently was a brand that I bought at Whole Foods. It's for the bikini but you have to do small sections at a time (which is why I think it works). I always like to try things just incase I am away for too long and can't get to a place.
Either way I think this is best left up to the specialists, IMO.

I tried once with that Nad's stuff that isn't quite wax? Some of it worked, but I ended up with huge bruises....plus it got all sticky and made a huge mess. I would NOT recommend that. I've heard good things about Bliss' Poetic Waxing Kit.

i tried the beeswax at home on the top pf my pubic area- and lets just say I didnt move fast enough to remove it and it was a COMPLETE disaster... once the wax rehardned I was DONE FOR-- nothing I could do- it took me a better part of 4 days and lots of pain to get it all off-- I could not shave it 0 to hard- i did little sections ata time with scissors- i am leaving it to the pros

The best I could muster up was using sugaring instead of wax. The upside was that it washes right off unlike wax.

But before I washed it off, I was stuck to the bathtub in the most awkward position. lol!

you have to be very quick. a friend of mine does her own. she's been doing it for about a year or 2. the first time though was a diasater. there is no way i could. i trust my esthetician too much. I would end up taking off skin.

I recently tried a product called Bliss Poetic Waxing Kit. I got it at Sephora. I haven't used it on the bikini area yet but it worked good on the legs. I liked that you don't need any strips and that way you can control more easily whether you want to remove a smaller or larger area of hair. I would try smaller ones first. The wax comes in a mug. Then you place it in a few inches of water in a pot (preferably an old one that you don't cook with) and then bring it to a boil in order to melt the wax. It should take about 20 minutes or so but you may have to reheat after a while to melt the wax again. Then you take the spatula and apply a layer of wax onto the skin which you leave on for a few seconds. Then you pull it off at the ends and voila... the hair comes right off! Sometimes you might need to do a second run but as far as waxing kits go I was kind of impressed with this one!

a question for those who get the brazilian- is it super painful? were you embarrassed to go the first time? do you get in grown hair after? is it hard to maintain?

i've been thinking of getting one for like a year now, but am wayyyyy too nervous

Candypants for me it depends on when i go. i am more sensitive the week before my period. if i go the week after AF comes then it's not as a painful. As far as embarassed my aesthetician is very discreet and made me feel very comfortable. you will probably get a few in grown hairs because when you pull the coarse hair out at the root it will grow in more fine and it will be harder for the hairs to break through the skin. in the beginning i had to go every 4 weeks to maintain. Now I can go every 12. Also the hair has to be at least a 1/4" long to be waxed. Don't shave in between waxings otherwise all the pain was for nothing.

how long have you been getting the brazilian to the point where you have to go only every 12 weeks? Am I going to have to go every month for years

I lost my brazilian "virginity" last month! Like Maddog, I went in for the sugaring method. I was SO pround of myself (I'm the biggest baby ever)!

My esthetician and I have actually become good friends. I had already been going to her for a couple years for facials and she was finally able to peer pressure me into trying a brazilian.

The sugar was basically a melted glob. After applying liberal amounts of baby powder, she smoothed it on and quickly yanked it off...much like regular waxing but without using strips. I won't lie...there are parts that hurt more than others, but it really wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Because it's a more 'natural' method and doesn't have resins like wax, she told me that I won't have ingrowns and the hair will grow back finer. She was right, at least in my case! For maintanence, you go back every month so that's me this Saturday, lol.

HTH! Good luck with your decision!

the first time was an experience that I have never witnessed, but it was quick. I did feel a little sore leaving the place.

the first time, omg I was sweating oceans (i barely ever sweat) and I was so nervous and hot. Whenever she put the hot wax down there I started to perspire even more!! Luckily the woman was very calm and patient.

three days after your wax, your suppose to exfoliate to prevent ingrown hairs. It worked for me, except a couple of more times I got lazy. But trust me, you are much more sensitive down there if you know what i mean.

Its not to hard to maintain. Just remeber to don't shave down there for a week before getting your wax. Also helps to take a shower before the wax so that your pores are open and your hair is easily wiped off. If your scared of the pain, simply take an aspirin a couple of hours before you go.

Its quick, painful and worth it. You will be addicted

Its suggested not to have your waxing procedure, specially with brazilian, on your cycle or 3 days before and after, since your skin is sensitive during this period due to enlarge blood vessels.

its not bad at all!! i wish i went sooner. youll be so happy with the results, i swear by it now.

i go to elizabeth grady and its not bad at all. i told her it was my first time and she said ok and did her thing. i just kept quiet because i dont really like to chit chat when im nervous, but in and out 15 mins. SO WORTH IT! its recommended to get it every 5 weeks. mine didnt really grow until the last half of my 3rd week.
