Default Question for contact lenses wearers... why does this happen?

About once a week or so, I have serious issues with my contacts... they never want to sit in place, they end up sliding up my eyeball everytime I blink so everything is blurry! This goes on for hours and it's super uncomfortable, plus I can't see.

Why does this happen? Any way to prevent this? It seems so random as 6 out of 7 days a week, they're just fine.

Thanks for any suggestions...

Thanks -- are rewetting drops actually different than contact lenses solution (like the multi-use no-rub stuff)? Sometimes I just put a few drops of the solution I use into my eye, but it doesn't seem to help. Maybe rewetting drops will be better?

Yes, there are drops just made for rewetting contacts. Regular solution may end up irritating your eye, since they are meant to clean lenses.

Have you been checked for an astigmatism? Could be that you need toric lenses

If this isn't an issue it could be that you need to reduce your contact lens wear. How many hours a day do you have them in? It might be that your eyes are getting tired and a little dry after close to a week of wear and you need to wear specs one day a week

I doubt rewetting solution would help as that's just saline

I make sure I rinse the contacts very thoroughly again with solution BEFORE putting it in my eye. I like the blue box from AMO I think it is called Complete Care. I have astigmatism as well and that is the only one that stays moisturized for me. I use the Accuvue Advance for Astigmatism brand as well. I find if I use a different cheaper brand of contacts/solution or if I don't rinse the contacts thoroughly, my eyes get really irritated.

i hate this feeling and I as well have astig...

I just recently went to the ER I woke up and my eye was closed shut...it had been bothering me a couple of days- just like that feeling you described- but always irritated... well come to find out I had/have and ulcer on my cornea... and man did it hurt... I could look at light, couldnt open it and any wind or air was a painful incident..I have been applying this anti-biotic gel type creme to the inner eyelid- and my eye is dropping and greasy a hot damn mess...
so i got to give the contacts a break for along time.....

I get that if I don't get enough rest...my eyes are tired, and my contacts misbehave. If my eyes are too dry (I live in a pretty dry climate) then this happens too.

The rewetting drops should help you (and they're in a little bottle, so easier to carry in your purse than solution!). I wear torics too, and they're fine when I'm sitting up or standing. But I do notice when I lie down for a while, they get fuzzy because the weighted side still stays down, so they rotate on my eye, and I can't see out of them! They also get blurry when I get a tiny bit of makeup in my eye, or when it's dusty or smoggy outside.

When this happens, if the rewetting drops don't work, I usually just take them out, rinse them (and rub a little) with solution, and put them back in.

Also, when it happens two days in a row, it's time to change to a new pair.

This happened to me constantly when I had protein buildup on my contacts which gave me conjunctivitis. In my case, I would get it every day after wearing my contacts for about 2-3 hours (which was SO frustrating!!). I solved the problem by switching to ClearCare solution and switching to disposables (I was on the contacts that you wear for a year, which IMO is the most terrible idea ever!).

OMG, I'm traumatized by your post! LOL I hope you're getting better... YIKES. This just happened overnight with no warning???? I'm so paranoid now!! I do hope you're alright!

Thanks for the suggestions, ladies. I've been wearing contacts for years and years... I've never bothered with rewetting drops but now it may be time to get some.

don't mean to hijack the thread...but does anyone that regularly wear contacts have problems with their eyes burning and watering really badly for a few minutes a few times a day when you skip a day of contacts? i do, and it hurts SO badly that i can barely open my eyes for a few minutes. then it goes away. this usually happens 2-3 times if i go a day without my contacts in, sometimes just in one eye, sometimes in both.
