All the great programs, Insanity, P90x, and RushFit, are sold in DVD format. Why can't they make these smartphone apps?! I want to take them to the gym!! I want to take it with me when I travel!

The other day I saw a woman in the main studio of my gym with her laptop -- crikey! Come on program developers, get with the times!!

OK, there I feel better.

I can't really see myself doing an exercise program on my phone while at the gym. I mean, part of having dvd programs is that they give you the ability to get in shape at home, without having to go to a gym. Also, my gym (which is quite large and state-of-the-art) doesn't really have an area where someone could do a full-on work-out routine from their phone, unless you were utilizing one of the fitness rooms in private. I could maybe see using a program on my phone when I travel, if I had the ability to hook it up to a tv.

I guess I'm not seeing why I couldn't have the program on my nano and listen to the directions. I don't have to watch it once I know the moves.

Jillian Michaels has stuff available on iTunes, as well as an app, but I don't think it's really the kind you are looking for (hers has diet and exercise tips as well as recipes and stuff)
6-week six pack is available, as is ripped in 60 and a few others. There is also a P90X app. as well as a few others. iFitness Pro is pretty popular.
There are several fitness videos available on iTunes that could easily be downloaded on your phone as a "companion guide" for the gym.

I was disscussing this with my husband the other day,we do Insanity together in our living room. To be able to do the workout from an app on the ipad,in our garden with much more space and fresh air, would just be much better! Maybe they are working on it?

There might be technical issues to consider, like piracy, file size, compatibility, etc. They also have a warning that the material is not licensed for public viewing. Then they would have to figure out how much more money they would make to offer it in this format. There may also be safety and liability issues with regard to teaching exercise form on a small screen or with audio only.

It's not the same thing, but there is an app called Sworkit where you can put in the time you want to work out, type of exercise/body part to target and it will generate you a workout on your phone. It tells you how long to do each exercise and when to switch to the next one. It also has full sequence yoga.

I had a friend help me in ripping (?) my 30 Day Shred DVD into a format I could put on my iPod. Let me tell you though, it really wasn't as great as I thought it would be. With all the movement, the iPod really didn't stay-put very well. Now, I have one of the older iPods, so the newer, thinner ones would probably work better. I have a nano for the gym, but you can't put video on it. I guess you could just put the audio....hmmm, I need to ask my friend about that lol.

I travel frequently, and have no problem in taking my laptop into the hotel's gym to do work-outs (if I'm not using the elliptical/treadmill), lol.

If you buy P90x (the original not P90x2), it comes with a book and lists each and every exercise. You can do it with bands which makes for great travel. I do P90x and I don't even use the DVDs anymore. :)

I have done P90x numerous times. I am in my mid-40s and I did not need to lose weight when I started. Nevertheless I lost 12 pounds after doing 2 rounds of it!

Its hard but once you do, you get used to it. I now do it with other programs to mix it up. I tell everyone if there is 1 or 2 workouts you really don't like in the program and you've tried to do it several times, switch it to something else. Just keep doing as much as you can and you will succeed.

I love apps like that! I would also suggest Nike training camp. They have tons of work outs that are 30-45 minutes and have plenty of instructions.
