Default OTC Diet Pills?

I have been working out and eating healthy since early Feb. I have not lost weight since mid March (14 weeks). I am 35 and know that it is harder now - but as you can imagine 14 weeks without the scale budging is beginning to get soooooooooooooooooooooo disheartening!

I am beginning a very restrictive diet of approx 1300 calories a day. I have been on it 2 days and all I can think about is food food food! I had been doing about 1600-2000 a day. Is there an OTC diet pill out there that someone has used with success?

I really didn't want to resort to a pill but I am sooooooo frustrated.

I've tried them -- I even tried Metabolife back in the day -- and honestly, it doesn't do anything (the ephedra ones kinda worked, but made me feel like crap). Dieting sucks; the only thing I can tell you is that you should adjust soon and not feel as deprived. If you don't, maybe you can adjust the foods you eat (if you haven't already cut out processed foods, etc.), or consider upping your calorie intake to 1500, which is still pretty good.

I've also heard that some people take in more calories for a brief period period of time. I think the trainers at my old gym would sometimes do this. I was always afraid to, but maybe it would work? Your metabolism just adjusts to the lower caloric intake.

Adjusting you caloric intake is good. Even if it's just by a few hundred cals. Doing this beats the plateau.

i have not tried the pills but when i first started trying to lower my caloric intake, i was constantly hungry for about a week. i started to make myself drink a lot more water and i would eat what i wanted only in tinier portions. so basically i was having about 4 or 5 small meals and dinner. my body finally adjusted after about a week and a half and it has begun to feel natural to eat a lot less. also, have you upped your workout routine?

all the online research i did pretty much said what you ladies did. the pills are useless. I so fell off the wagon this weekend. I ate so much crap .... so maybe dropping back down to 1300 cal this week will really help. After a huge pigout weekend maybe the drop wll wake up my metabolism. I haven't uped my workouts I actually had to stop last week b/c of an injury to my calf muscle. Another reason I just pigged out. So down about being laid up. But I am going to do a light workout this Friday and see how my calf reacts.

i am sooooooo frustrated.

I'm taking a detox pill called B&H Capsule, made from Chinese Proprietary Medicine. A fairly famous product in Singapore (where I am in) and in Hong Kong.

I think its better than prescription drugs (i.e. panbesy, duromine, reductile, xenical) and other OTC slimming and detox pills that I've tried. Prescription drugs causes bad breath and insomia. OTC slimming diets usually require drastic change in eating habits + lotsa exercise or that I stick to some bland powder liquid diets..

Have been taking it for the past 5 months.. coupled with 30 mins brisk walking of my dogs in the evening every alternate days, I lost 3kg in the month, 2kg in the 2nd month and subsquently, between 1-0.5 kg from the 3rd month onwards. Have since lost almost 7kg

I took Zantrex-3 for a few weeks. It worked BUT it ended up making me ill. I lost about 14lbs in 3 weeks. The bottle said to take 2 with each meal but I only took one with each meal & then after 2 weeks I upped to 2..and that's when it started making me feel ill.

A few of my friends took it too.. one it didn't work at all for and made her feel constantly sick & dizzy, it worked for most of us though.. some with better results than others. I wouldn't really recomend it though unless it's for a really short period!

I am surprised this thread hasn't been closed. In the past, threads about diet pills were closed, because the mods felt these were unhealthy.

I did consider a diet pill once, but then thought they are a waste of money since there are no guarantees they will work, plus there could be side effects--- so I never tried one. I'm the same age as you and I hit a plateau several times only because I ate too much. I didn't gain weight but my weight stabilised for a week or two then once I got back on track my weight went down. Anyway, you've pointed out you ate between 1,600-2,000 cals per day so you know what the issue is. Yes being as restrictive as eating only 1,300 made me obsessed too. I lost weight quite rapidly on 1,200-1,300 but I couldn't stick to it. I now eat on average 1,500 and although my weight loss is slow I don't obsess, I feel healthy and I don't feel miserable and deprived.

I wouldn't rec pills but Lemon drop it seems like you have already realized it's not the answer.

Plus the FDA has not approved these medications which means that they never had to PROVE they work to get on the self. Also we have not seen the long term effects of these meds. possible cancer, hypertension, etc. We always forget about the long term we just want to lose weight now.
My friends have taken these and their hands shake a little it's not worth it.

Calorie restriction is always the best method and increasing your workout intensity. I know I sound like a broken record but in all my years it's the only thing that's proven to work for long term and the only thing I would endorse.

Even if you take something to lose the last "5 lbs" it will come right back after you stop the meds and you can't possibly continue these pills forever right? So work on your self control because that is ultimately the reason anyone weighs what they weigh (expect for the rare few with abnorm metabolisms)

Remember being at a plateau is not a bad thing. Your still less than before and that's a success no matter what the numbers say !!!!!
Good luck!!!!!!!!!

it's most likely a mod hadn't seen it. please report things you think are against the rules, ladies!

i'll be closing it now. to the OP - diet pills are not the answer. you may want to seek help with a nutritionist or personal trainer to map out a system that works for your body and lifestyle if you're not having any luck on your own.
