I'd definitely recommend seeing a pulmonologist.

HOWEVER, if during this episode of pain i take one BIG inhale, there's an excruciating pain in my heart area, a 'popping', noise/feeling, and the pain is gone.

NOW. I've been to the cardiologist, and says my heart is fine, and insists that it's my lungs and might be a form of asthma I'm just not treating.

Anybody else have this problem/know what I'm talking about? Did you get it checked out? What did your doctor say?

I've done research and I'm convinced it's 'texidor's twinge', or "precordial catch syndrome", but whenever I search those, nothing about asthma comes up...
I know EXACTLY what you mean...I used to think it was my heart also, but now, I agree with your doc, I think for me it could be some form of asthma.

I've had this too! I've never had it checked out. I've had it for as long as I can remember and it only happens once in a blue moon. I would love to know what it is though!

I had the exact same numbing pain as well. I went to the doctor and he say it could be stress-induced.. But i dont have the pooping sound though.

Life a few of the other ladies mentioned, I've had a similar issue but it's more in my ribs rather than my actual heart, and there's no popping sound. It doesn't happen often, but it is a very sharp sudden pain and I can breath deep otherwise it hurts more. I just wait until it passes. I always figured it was some sort of muscle spasm.

Wow, I didn't realize lot of us experiencing the same/similar pain. Like sunny07, mine is in the ribs area, exactly the same symtoms. Sometimes my whole arm gets numb after the shooting pain. I went to the ER, too, but everything checked out fine. There are lots of nerves and dermatomes in the chest area, too, and maybe some of our nerves are sensitive. I dunno. Although it scared me when this happened...

Hope you find what is causing it soon!

I get that too, I've gone to dozens of doctors and every single one has told me it's heartburn (total BS!!!) I gave up trying to figure out what it is after years and years of tests and going for 2nd, 3rd,.... 15th opinions

If you figure it out please let us know so I can go get tested for whatever it is! It's painful and annoying. I tend to get them in clusters, several in a few weeks and then nothing for months at a time.

Pleurisy.

Sound familiar?

I've had this off and on my entire life. It's no biggie, provided you've had all the recommended work-ups to rule out anything serious and they come back clean.

I have the same thing, including the popping. If we're feeling the same pop, I can't see how it can be the spine, my only speculation is the rib. It's also not the same as the shooting pain in the boob cuz I get that as well and it feels different than this (same shooting pain, just feels different. I'm not sure how to explain it).

I had this on and off for years now. Two years ago, I had this pain multiple times daily for half a year before I decided to check it out. I had 3 ekgs done, a stress test, an x ray. Everything is fine. I have mild asthma too but it's really specific to humidity and silicone sand particles, so I never thought it had anything to do with my asthma either. I've gotten my scratch tests and I have no common allergy.

To this day, I also still have no answer. So here are the possibilities so far from my various doctors (they don't seem to concerned) and all my negative tests:
- inflammation in the rib cage, apparently very common in women under the age of 30, nothing serious and could explain the popping. I know the pain is not in the center, but that's what was suggested to me.
- stress
- food sensitivity

I seem to have less or even none when I've been exercising. Do you work out on a regular basis?

ETA: I wish one of these episodes would happen DURING an EKG cuz when it does, I press my fingers against my heart and it feels different. I dunno if it's just the muscles around it or cuz it affects my breathing, but the beat seems to skip a little here and there and it beats stronger. Of course, it's all just speculation cuz I'm using my fingers and of course this never happens during a test. So while I'm not too concerned anymore, this sometimes makes me think it IS the heart and not something else.

Sounded like it, but I don't get the dry cough and fever/chills.

I'm pretty sure it's Texidor's twinge/precordial catch syndrome...

Not really worried, was at first but after the docs, I just shrugged it off. I'm still kicking so it can't be that harmful--it's just annoying.

Glad to see I wasn't alone with this!

Actually, my 'episodes' became more frequent when I began exercising on the weekends. Once when I was in dance and in warm-up, DURING an exercise, I had an episode. Most of them happened after practice when I was at rest, maybe watching tv or on the computer (when I'm resting, I actually slow my breathing down and take shallower breaths without realizing it) so it makes sense about the asthma, because I have had it in the past...

Those times (dance/exercising) were extra stressful, but my first episodes happened in a very non-stressful time (before vacation)... So I don't think it's stress...

I've never felt my heart during an episode, but I sure will now!

Yep!

It got to the point where I would have them daily, sometimes multiple times a day. Then for a few months it went away, then came back with a vengeance!

hehe the typo threw me off a little there

In my case, that only happens when you take a huge breath. Pops and then all the pain is gone.

It's really quick--I think the thought of it is just scary. I noticed that when i THINK of taking the deep breath I psych myself out and suffer through the pain for the 2-3 minutes. The times it has popped, it was when I wasn't really aware I was having an episode or it didn't really 'click'--totally accidental.
