Welcome New Coach Queen!

I've been doing okay the past week or so. Weight still pretty much the same. Eating pretty much on track. Been stressed out though (busy busy, need new roof for house, etc.) so exercise has been more sporadic and I haven't been sleeping as well. Stopped tracking food (though my eating has been pretty automated so I pretty much know about how many calories I've been eating even though I'm not tracking). Did get in a 75 minute run on Sunday, so that was a high point. Once the roof is scheduled (and then done, but that's probably 3-4 weeks out) and I get a better handle on my busier schedule I'll feel better I'm sure. The weather's been cooler at least, so I'm getting excited for fall.

As for me, I've managed to keep my weight steady through recovery, though it wasn't easy... It's tempting to eat comfort food when you're feeling uncomfortable. Anyway, it was a feat on itself and I'm glad I was headstrong enough to follow through! I'm planning on resuming my walks soon, though it's been SUPER HOT IN SEATTLE. What happened to the famed sweater weather? Apparently, it's very unusual for it to reach and maintain mid 80s here for so long. I hate sweating more than anything, so yes, the brisk walking will have to wait and I will have to consume even less calories to lose weight!
Heard about the heat wave in Seattle!! My mom was laying new hardwood floors in the basement of her house there (my childhood home) this past weekend and said it was HORRIBLE- muggy, hot, like a Southern swamp! Hope you are holding up okay- you will probably wish for the heat wave, come October, though if you don't like to sweat, Seattle may be a great place to settle!

I love the supportive group in this thread, too- I think it's really making a difference in my own process around losing weight and maintaining accountability to myself.

I need the daily kick in the butt from someone, to jump start my kicking my own butt. It was so much easier when I was younger! Can we rewind time?
I miss how I used to feel about myself. I gained weight when my father got sick, and then he passed. Then children. I often felt broken. It needs to stop. I need to stop loving myself with food. Will y'all help me step away from the cheesecake?!!
I'm mentally preparing myself to put p90x in or something. What is hard is that I have 3 kids and I work. I wish there were more hours in the day!
Well, I'm off to a good start today. I had an egg, tea, and half a banana.
Hope everyone has a good day! I send you all strength.
Hey NewCoachQueen and welcome! I have lots of weight to lose, also, and it does seem like a huge task at times, but I totally agree with Eehler's post on the topic- just tackling individual lifestyle elements one at a time has really worked for me in the past. I'm also really trying to focus on feeling good- actually good, not just-ate-a-pound-of-fries good- and retraining myself to recognize what that looks like and separate it from my pathology around food. Glad you're here and hope you're having a great week!

Pretty solid this week so far- I'm now down 9 pounds since July 1st, whoo hoo! I want to have a spectacular September and October and get ready to be really good about my food and exercise schedule over the holiday season, which, as we all well know I'm sure, is a notorious diet-slayer. Still working CRAZY long hours at work, but there's been lots of excitement lately, so I'm hanging in there! We went to the movies tonight (saw The Awakening, which improbably starred both Jimmy McNulty and Bran Stark [why, why, why does Game of Thrones not come back on until March???? It's just not fair]) and I ran the dogs (well, they ran at the dog beach, then we did 5 miles walking on the marina trail). Ready for a long bath and an early bedtime tonight . Hope everyone is having a great Tuesday!

Yay for the Wire and GOT!

I was finally down to the 3 lb mark this morning, so that was exciting. I guess my mini goal at this point would be to be down 10 lbs by the end of 2012. Then I'd still have 10 months in 2013 to hopefully lose another 10 or so before the wedding :)

congrats on the achievement! That is so excellent!

I've only lost about 3 lbs thus far, but I know my main reason is the exercise. I haven't been able to fit in a good time. I get up too early so mornings are out of the question, and evenings have been difficult because I find myself busy with cooking, cleaning, and other chores before I end up going to bed. I've been trying to do lunchtime walks at work but the weather has been pretty hot and muggy here in so cal lately. I just ordered one of those walk away the pounds DVDs so hopefully I can find some time for that!

Anyway I am not a total loss. I have been eating much healthier and less portions. I dont know about all you ladies, but I'm always looking for good and healthy recipes to try. I made some awesome salmon last night. Basically you just make a sauce, which I made in only 5 min, and then pour over the salmon in a baking pan. Then you bake. The sauce is really simple and delicious!

1/4 cup orange juice
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
2 tablespoons brown sugar (I'm sure you can omit this if you'd like)
4 teaspoons chili powder
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon salt (I put less since I'm also reducing my salt intake)
pinch cayenne pepper (I didn't have any so I sprinkled reg. black pepper in)

Whisk together above ingredients in a small bowl. This recipe is given for four 6-oz salmon filets, so you can make less for the amount of fish you are making. Coat a baking dish with cooking spray and place salmon in dish. Pour the sauce over the salmon and coat both sides of each piece. Roast at 400 degrees for 15-20 min (depending on the cut of the salmon) or until it is cooked to your liking. I absolutely loved the way this turned out and I felt it was a great healthy dish.

Thanks for this!! I love salmon and eat it regularly, but pretty much just bake it, which gets boring.

Here's a salmon recipe my friend gave me. I haven't tried to make it yet, but she's made it for me and it's delicious:

1) Make a paste from the following: 1.5 cups shelled pistachios (crushed into very small pieces either by hand or knife or food chopper), 1 tablespoon olive oil, 1 tablespoon fish oil, enough water to make it smooth (usually a tablespoon or so)
You want the mixture to be wet but not runny - a chunky paste.
2) Take 2 medium pieces of salmon ( i think about a pound or 1.25 pounds) and wash it, pat it dry gently. Poke several holes with a fork over top (skin side is down). Put pistachio paste over salmon thickly covering the entire top in a 1/8 inch paste.
3) Broil salmon on a lightly greased baking sheet for approximately 10 minutes (depending on thickness of fish) until pistachios are slightly brown and fish is no longer pink and flakes easily with a fork.

Woo hoo!! Way to go!

I *think* I'm still down about 3 lbs. haven't weighed myself in a couple of weeks. I tend to pay more attention to how clothes fit, how I feel, etc. I know I should weigh myself, and eventually I'll get back on the scale!

Skipped the workout today but my eating was good - yogurt and granola for breakfast, soup for lunch, and some BBQ lean chicken with salad for dinner. Did have a chocolate chip muffin for a snack, but still w/in my calories. Back to the 5am multi-mile walk tomorrow!

Hi all!

Switched it up and did the bike this morning. 45 minutes of hills. Currently having greek yogurt with mango and vanilla almond granola for breakfast, along with some coffee and soy creamer. Planning some Progresso Light soup for lunch and having dirty rice and steamed veggies for dinner...yum!

Hope everyone has a great day!

...I'm still recovering from the insanity DVD. I have all day to mentally prepare myself for putting day 2 in later tonight. You will not scare me Shawn T, you hear me? :P (maybe a little scared)

Had my egg, my yogurt, my kiwi, and my tea.

See you guys later!

Insanity is sooo hard! I've never finished the program but was thinking about starting it again. Maybe we can motivate each other!

The insanity is like p90x X100; name is appropriate. Like it? No. Effective? Yea. I need a drill sargent :P

If only I was rich enough to pay for someone to follow me around and bark at me all day.

My husband does p90x regularly. I have Insanity and leandro's boom boom butt lift--not sure if God meant my butt to move in such planes of motion...

Ugh. Wish I could just wake up as Kate Beckinsale.
