Default Lasik recovery

Hey tpf'ers!

I'm considering doing lasik & am wondering how long it took for you girls to resume your normal makeup routines. Also, what complications did you girls face after doing lasik?

Would appreciate any feedback! TIA!

liftflobowl, there was no makeup restriction after the LASIK. No complications.

It may be due to my age, but there was somewhat a farsightedness side affect for me. Reading/writing/computer work right after the surgery was a bit difficult, since the vision is still trying to adjust itself. I have also been required to wear glasess for all close up work for at least 6 months.

Otherwise, highly recommend it!!! Best decision of my life. I have been wearing glaseses/contact for years, and it's amazing that I can now wake up without having to reach for my glasses.

My stepson also just got it done!

I had lasik done in 2006. The only complication I had was stinging/burning feeling in my eyes for a few hours after surgery. After that everything was fine.

I had terrible eye sight. From elementary school to jr high wore glasses after jr high till I was 26 I wore contacts. Lasik was the best decision I ever made. It was worth every penny. I'm sooooo glad to be free of contacts and glasses.

Me too, I started wearing glasses at age 6. Blind without them....

I had the same thing... My eyes really BURNED!
Took a couple Nyquil and knocked myself out. Woke up and everything was crystal clear.

I steered away from make-up for a while since I had to put drops in my eyes. I wasn't used to putting anything in my eyes, even when I had contacts, so I was just extra careful.

I am 24 and plan to do Lasik when I'm 25 (that was the suggested age from family). My cousins and uncle have had it done, and they had no complications and also state it's the best thing they did.

I just had it done in March and my instructions were to not wear makeup, swim, jog, heavy lifting for at least 4 days. I didn't even wear makeup a week before the procedure because I wanted my eyes to be as 'clean' as possible.

My eye's burned like I cut a million onions at once immediately after the procedure, but after I slept for about 4 hours they were fine. Try to schedule your's later in the afternoon so that you can come home, take a sleeping pill and feel like new in the morning.

FYI...first off...be sure you QUALIFY for Lasik. I went for a consultation last year, and was not a good candidate (thin corneas)...my only other option was PRK at the time. (Basic difference - they don't "cut a flap"...but scrub away a bit of the cornea if I remember correctly.) PRK has a longer recovery time (at least a week until you can even see clear from the literature I was given.)

I opted against the whole procedure for other reasons...but best of luck to you if you go through with it!

You have to stop wearing contacts for a while before surgery, for me it was 2 weeks. After lasik, I was instructed not to wear makeup, I think it was for 1 week maybe 2 weeks. I wore light powder, blush, lip gloss, and groomed my eyebrows but followed the instructions with no eye makeup. It was absolutely painless for me. I got up from surgery, had very watery eyes, but could read all the eye charts right away. It was amazing! Its been about 7 yrs and I can still see perfectly, thank god.
