Call the doc and get the strength of the prescription. Then you can order from 1 800 Contacts online.

Do you just not have optical insurance or health insurance in general?

You will need more than just the power of your prescription to order contacts- there is something w/ angles and something else, if I remember right. Your powers may be different for glasses v. contacts too- mine are. Call your doctor and see what s/he says. You can also buy contacts from Sam's Club or Costco, sometimes cheaper than online, depending on the brand.

call the doctor that gave you the prescription and they should be able to give you the info you need to order your contacts from 1800contacts. I did mine online last summer without going to see the doctor again because my doctor is 2 hours away in Atlanta, and it went just fine.

Oy, that's not good. Have you looked online for cheap basic insurance? I found my plan on insurance.com because the plan that my employer provided (it's a small company) was too expensive. Please don't keep yourself at risk, you should protect yourself.

Hey Ksammon..what brand of contacts do you wear?

First, you need a copy of the prescription. Ones from other countries work here in the US as well. The docs just need to read the numbers. Second, the price depends mainly on the brand you use, some are really not too expensive. Third, the ONLY way to avoid going to the doc to get another eye exam to get a prescription is if you have the old one from your doctor. Without one, you'll have to visit the doctor again in order to order contact lens anywhere...even online.

Oh I have a question, how does 1800 contacts work? Do they require a copy of the actual RX or does knowing the strengths of the RX enough? Sorry I worked for a company and by law everyone must have the actual RX(the piece of paper from their doctor, whether it is a copy) in order to get contacts. Is 1800 easier?

Most of these online places require a prescription at most a year old- Did your doctor do a reg eye check or one that allows for contacts? The latter is more thorough, but more expensive since they have to do more measurements. If you did the one for the contacts- your doctor should be able to forward you a copy so that you can order online.

I don't know about in the states but in canada the dr can not charge you again to give you your rx. I like my eye dr but never buy anything from him because he charges way to much for his frames. I just call and the have my rx waiting for me to pick up when ever I need it. The girl at the desk told me that it is "my" property and they are not allowed to charge me to have it written down. You will need your base curve for contact lenses I think most people are a 8.7 but I wear an 8.3. I also do buy my contacts from Costco they are 75% cheaper there than my eye doctors, and I wear two different rx's so I have to buy two boxes one for each eye.

Last time I ordered from 1800contacts, I just used the power and base curve, etc., that are on my old boxes. They did ask for my eye doctor's name and her address and phone number popped up automatically. Not sure if they actually called to verify the prescription, but if they do, your eye doctor shouldn't have a problem doing that. I wear toric lenses which are usually pretty expensive, but I think I paid something like $65 for a box of left, a box of right, and expedited shipping. I had them in less than a week.

There are other contact places online for cheaper then 1800 like contactlensking or lenses.com. I've ordered from both of them with no problems and there are codes out there. Alot cheaper then 1800.

Oh also they do call! I know because the place where I have exams always calls me after.

you'll need a copy of the prescription to order them online. I found this out the hard way after I moved to FL and was down to my last pair of contacts.

btw, you can simply call the doctor's office and pick up a copy of your prescription. You're not obligated to purchase contacts from him.
