i didnt even know this exsisted but it sucks.

about three weeks ago i noticed i had three pinkish colored patches on my right hand and slow they started to change colors. to a dark brown. and they almost look like smudges.

since they never hurt or itched i didn't think they were a burn or rash, so left them alone. then i noticed a small one on my left hand.

so i started getting curious. i searched and searched for days with nothing that looked like what i had until i saw a link that said 'becareful handling limes.'

i clicked and it talked about how psolaren a chemical in limes can affect and discolor the skin, especially being in the sun afterwards. creating brown patches.

then it made sense, about three weeks before hand i was making pitchers of mojitos for my mother in laws cook out. i must have cut and squeezed about 10 limes.

and now i'm stuck with these marks for probably about the next 6 months. and its starting to peel.

you can see it on my middle knuckle, my pointer finger and my thumb.

becareful handling limes!!!

thank you!

if anyone wants to research it further, if you type in to google "photodermatitis lime" you get the best results and pictures too. not too much info on how to take care of it except for moisturizer and hydracortizone.

i just wanted this here incase it happens to anyone else so they have the info, because typing in 'brown spots on hands' only brings up age spots and liver spots.

I add lime to my Corona and on top of my margaritas as well, this could easily happen to me.
Thanks for the warning!

A friend of mine had it happen about 15-20 years ago. She was squeezing limes for Margaritas while camping. It happened on her palms but it was red, itchy, like contact dermatitis. It only happens with Mexican limes. My understanding is that it is a variety that is particular to Mexico.

A lot of indie perfume makers warn people when there's a strong citrus component in their blends. I guess this is why.
