Default I have a question about the Rubella Vaccine.

I am starting Dental Hygiene school in the fall so I had to have a full physical the other day. I had to have the normal shots that you have to get during a physical. Well they decided to do a Tieter (sp) on me to see if I had immunities to Rubella and Hep B. I know that I have had these before b/c I called my mom and she read the dates off to me from my baby shot record book she still has. I am almost 25 years old btw. Well the nurse called today and left a message saying my tieter came back negative for Rubella and that I needed to come in and get a booster. I was reading up on the booster for adults and a lot of websites were saying that in adult women the Rubella vac. causes arthritis and other symtoms.

I was wondering if any of you have had the vaccine again as adults? I'm a little scared about getting it again.

I got it again as an adult. The MMR vaccine doesn't provide lifetime immunity, so most people will need a booster. The only thing was that I needed to be on my period because the rubella vaccine is contraindicated in pregnant women.

Keep in mind that the manufacturers of vaccines need to tell EVERY POSSIBLE complication of the vaccine. If one person got arthritis they need to tell about it.

There's no reason to be scared!

Before I got pregnant this time around, I discussed it with my gyno and she also did bloodwork to see if my Rubella vaccine was up to date and to make sure everything was alright, luckily i didn't need a booster.

I'd recommend getting the vaccine just because of how dangerous Rubella can really be...Even though it's not as common anymore, there is always a CHANCE that you can still get it (ie. the MUMPS outbreak). Like satcmck said, the companies who distribute and produce these products are required to give out information about any side effects that CAN occur

I haven't had to get a booster but I would say you should. If you plan to work anywhere in healthcare be it the janitor on up to the surgeon, you should be vaccinated.

I just had all the same stuff done. Interestingly, I can't find a vaccination date for my latest MMR booster but I'm immune to it, so I think that my dr. gave it to me a couple of years ago. You need a booster of MMR sometime in your 20s.

I never ever had German measles so I asked for the Rubella vaccine before I was married! My kids never had the MMR, I didn't like the risks so I will be recommending that my daughter have the Rubella shot in advance of getting pregnant.

I had to have it again after I had my first baby. I didn't/haven't had any issues at all. I wouldn't worry about it.
