Default I am on a quest...100 lbs to lose! This will be my personal weight loss thread! :)

I need to lose about 100 lbs. Many people don't think so (hehe, esp my online friends since I am very selective about the pics I post) but I really, really do. People say I carry my weight well and don't look so obese, but I am. And it feels good to admit it since I'm going to do something about it! I've lost 20 lbs here and 10 lbs there, but I've gained it all back because I got lazy. NO MORE. I can't give up on myself!!!

Of course my determination comes the very week I have to leave for a work conference. I think this could be a very good thing since all meals are included and we generally get a very nice selection of fruits, salads, vegetables, healthy snacks, etc (in addition to the fried stuff so i just have to make better choices). We also get a free pass to the gym on base...and there is *not* much to do there other than work out at night!

I am going to try to keep up with this thread and hopefully this will help me stay on track and accountable. I already belong to WW online so I will use that as a tracker for food/water/etc. I have PCOS so eating less carbohydrates is beneficial for my insulin, so I'm going to try to REDUCE carbs. I cannot cut them out...I will go crazy!

If you have an extra prayer to throw out there or any words of encouragement, personal stories, or advice, I would love to hear it!!!!

Dawn

good luck!!! Do you have any friends you can work out with? I know if I have someone to workout with it is so much more fun! It feels like social hour versus workout time. By the way, what bases do you go to?

i have a treadmill downstairs, along with weights, an exercise ball, and TV/DVD player (usually to watch something while I'm walking/jogging). we do have a gym membership but none of my friends live in my town.

GGLOVER - good for you! You are already on your way!!!! Any tips or tricks? Have you cut portions and are exercising? What's your attack plan?

Wow, good luck on that - it will be a tough journey !

I found what works best whenever I want to lose weight is water - lots of it ! It also works wonders on the skin.

Thanks Dawn. I've definitely cut down on my eating. I used to eat out all the time and was addicted to Resse's peanut butter cups. I don't count every calorie, but I think I'm getting about 1200 a day. I try to get most of my calories from fruit and lean meat (grilled chicken breast and fish). I'm not a big fan of most vegetables, but I do like salads so I have lots of them with reduced fat and non-fat dressings. My exercise plan is still not what it should be. I will not lie, I hate exercise. I don't like to sweat and it's been a real struggle to incorporate it into my life. I've been taking short 15-20 minutes walks around my house. I also have an exercise bike and I ride it during the commercials while I'm watching TV. I started my weight loss journey on 8/14/08. It's been about a month and a half and I'm down 12 pounds as of my last weigh in almost a week ago. The only tricks I have are pretty well known. I try to drink tons of water to help with feeling full. I also chew lots of sugar free gum, I think it helps me to not snack on things out of boredom. Anyways, sorry for the long post. Please keep us up to date on your progress.

thanks ayla. i know it will be tough. maybe one of the hardest things i'll ever do. but i HAVE to do it...esp if i ever want to get pregnant. PCOS causes major fertility issues but it has been shown that losing weight really helps. I've been sort of using PCOS as a crutch for the last few years because i'm so afraid that if I lose weight, I still won't be able to get pregnant (so not losing weight means i can use it as an excuse). Does that make sense?
at any rate, i have to stop with that kind of thinking.

Good luck Dawn!

Does online Weight Watchers really work? I used to go to the meetings for the 'rah rah' factor - but do you think it's enough to do it for online support? I'd love to join you - I'd like to lose 30 pounds.....

hi j!!!
it has worked for me in the past (until i gave up on myself). i lost about 19 lbs in a matter of 6 weeks (but i have a lot more to lose than you). i tried the meetings too but my schedule is too crazy now with grad school and work
you can do it and i'd love to have a partner in crime.

dawn, I know you can do it! 100 lbs sounds like a lot. But if you're sure that's how much you need to lose to be healthy, you can take it one step at a time and the pounds will come off little by little! Don't do something too drastic and it will be easier to stick with. If you lose 2 lbs a week you will be at your goal in a year. That's not too long, think about yourself a 1 year ago.

keep us posted! =)

cola, thank you for putting that into perspective!!!! losing 100 lbs would get me to a very normal size/weight but I will see how i feel as i go along. if 75 lbs is where i am comfortable and happy, fine. if it's 90, fine. i know i'm going to have to figure out a lot of this as i go along!
thank you thank you thank you.
