Default How much longer until I feel normal again post-surgery?

I had outpatient surgery on Friday May 9 to repair a broken wrist. I'm resting at home this week. I still feel pretty woozy. I had general anesthesia and I think they really pumped me up with drugs to keep me under and also gave me a lot of anti-nausea medication as well (thank goodness).

I was taking Darvocet for pain but stopped taking it Tuesday afternoon. I really didn't need something that strong and I didn't like the side effects -- tummy issues and slight panic attacks (yikes!). Now I'm taking Aleve which is fine.

The trouble is that I still feel pretty completely wiped out. And a little woozy every hour or so. It doesn't help that we're having a sudden heat wave here in SF and I have no air conditioning.

I'm trying to manage by wiping my face and neck with a cool washcloth and I have an ice pack around the back of my neck. And I just raided the ice cream to keep cool too.

Any other advice and experience from those who have recovered from surgery?

no experience. but good to see that you are ok. Now your body is trying to heal itself. I say take it easy and rest.

when I had my gall bladder out in January I was so tired and exhausted in general for over 2 weeks after. I'm in pretty good shape so I was surprised, but one of my best friends is a doctor and told me that the anesthsia can stay in your system for 2 weeks. Feel better soon!

It always takes me one to two weeks post op before i feel normal again. The drugs u were on do stay in your system sometimes so it takes a while.I was on a morphine drip in the hospital for 2 weeks and it took me WEEKS before my head was clear!!!

it will take about two weeks.. everyone's body reacts differently, but as they say "rest is the best medicine".. i was in bed a lot, but i always made sure i went outside for half hour every day, even if i ididn't go anywhere that day...

Thanks all ... finally, one full week after surgery, I am starting to feel like myself again. Not perfect but definitely a lot better. Just one day at a time ...
