Default How hungry do you get?

It's been awhile since I've actively tried to lose weight... but, I know in order to lose weight, you have to burn more calories than you consume.

My goal is trying to get down 2 dress sizes toward the end of July...not really paying attention to the actual pounds lost, just how well I fit into a certain outfit....

... I've started walking everyday.. I'm making a commitment to avoid fast food... adding fruit and veggies to the daily noshing... and lots and lots of water... I'll be adding on some light weight training, too...

...but it's about 9pm right now and I'm hungry.

Not STARVING hungry..but hungry. I'd like to eat, but I can also ignore it.

Is it okay to be hungry, or should I cut up an apple and slather it with peanut butter? LOL

When making a lifestyle and diet change, do you just endure the hungry until you're body is used to a changed diet, or are there certain "snack" foods I can safely use to take the edge off?

For me, as hungry as I am, I try to forget about it because I know once I start, I can't stop eating. The hunger pangs will go off after a while.

That is my problem too. I feel like a binge-alcoholic ... can't ever just have a little bit of food. Difference is, you don't have to drink alcohol, but you do have to eat food.

I found giving up a 40 cigs a day habit easier for this reason (and I was extremely addicted to smoking).

I get incredibly hungry at night also. I am also trying to exercise more often (I hate the gym, so I signed up for classes such as ballet, yoga and dance) and eating less. When I am hungry, I need to eat something. I would recommend crunchy fruit (lots of fiber) or carrots. If you are still ravenous, add a small handful of almonds. Even organic, natural unsalted peanut butter is good w/ carrots and apples. Moderation is key. You will be satisfied. Never go hungry-- your body needs energy. Try to eat every 3 hours on something healthy, crunchy fruit and veggies are the best option. I always stash an apple in my bag when I go to work to munch on when I'm hungry at around 10.30am at work. Good luck-- you can do it!

may3545 has excellent advice. It is never a good idea to go hungry. Your body needs fuel. You need to eat every few hours to keep your blood sugar steady.

At night, especially after going to the gym, I feel like I am starved. But, if I just get a big glass of water and something small, like string cheese, yogurt, or a bit of cereal, etc. and most times, I find that I'm really not that hungry. If I am really hungry though, I eat!

I am on a diet, need to lose 1 stone! I just have some fruit for breakfast so today I was really hungry around lunch time, had an enormous salad, Just felt ill afterwards! Taught me a lesson, just ride the hunger pangs, I feel better on an empty stomach! I am ok on fruit for breakfast & a decent dinner with some meat, loads of veg & no carbs!

I eat late at night often. I usually have a small bowel of bran cereal with raisins. I use rice milk instead of cow's milk. I'll add half a banana if I still feel empty inside.
