Default gastric balloon for weight loss???

So I heard from my cousin that this is the new popular thing to do at like beauty salons!!! Have any of you guys ever done it and is it safe? What it is is they insert a balloon into your stomach and then fill it up with saline or salt water and its to make you feel full so you won't want to eat as much. and then they take it out after 6 months. They've been doing it in europe I think.

Beauty salon?! thats insane. Im not sure but I believe it has been banned in the US due to health and safety reasons or something like that. Maybe someone else can confirm that.
I am familiar with this - a few of my friends have done it. Always done by a specialist doctor at a hospital. As you said its a balloon type thing that goes in via a tube and then it is filled up. I dont think its very effective personally because two of the people I know that have done this didnt lose that much weight at all. There is also the chance that the balloon will pop I think and in that case it will have to be replaced. To my knowledge they have been doing this procedure for atleast 4 or 5 years.

yes, in asia they do everything at like a beauty salon/ facial place. In U.S. here we're strict on like botox injections and things like that that needs to be administered via a nurse if not a doctor but in asia they just do it at any spa places. would you happen to know what happens if it pops? I know saline should be safe but are there any other side effects? Thanks noon!

Here's a study on the procedure and its effectiveness from a gastroenterology journal:
