Default Fainting?

Hi ladies,

Have any of you ever had a problem with passing out regularly? For no apparent reason?

It started a few months ago and I figured it was probably stress. My doctor insisted on doing a load of tests all of which ruled out some common causes. And I'm in pretty good health!

I'm just wondering if any of you have this problem! I don't see a lot of information online.

It's just a little inconvenient/embarrassing.

Yes, I used to faint a lot when I was younger (late teens). It was most likely stress related. Then it just stopped when I got a little older: 21-22. It also helped once I started sleeping regular hours, getting enough sleep, and getting enough to eat.

Thanks, Greendrv! I think its just stress too. I just canceled a neurologist appointment, a 24-hour heart-monitor and an internist appointment because I don't think it's that serious.

My only concern is that it happens while I'm driving. It's already happened twice while I was on a date (EMBARASSING!!!!!!!!!) which was the worst of it! To clarify, I meant it happened once on two different dates. Not twice in one night. LOL That would be too much for any guy to handle.

I know exactly what you mean! It never happened to me while driving - that would definitely concern me!!! However, it did happen while I was trying to impress a guy I was working out with. Boy, was that embarassing!!! And it also happened once in front of my mother. My mother already has panic attacks thinking about all the horrible things that could happen to me, and watching me pass out cold in front of her didn't help at all!

Stress can do terrible things and have long term consequences on one's health! It is very important to practice some more of stress management - yoga, meditation, prayer, exercise, especially when you're young.

Fainting is not something NORMAL....I would get a thorough work-up again..or a second opinion from another doctor..You could have low blood sugar or any other issues that could be serious..PLEASE get checked out and let us know how you are..AND YES,stay off the road!!!

I only fainted once when I was around 12 years old. I was at a wedding in the heat and we were standing up while they were doing some sort of prayer and I forgot to keep shifting my weight and I went straight down. Unfortunately someone has that on tape somewhere and I hope it never makes it to America's Funniest Home Videos lol. It was really embarassing and the mayor and one of the council members were also at the wedding since the parents were friends with them. They brought me water but ugh. For the rest of the day everyone joked around about me trying to steal the attention away from the bride and groom.
But anyway also this past Saturday, my mom and I were at Disneyland for a Marie Osmond meet and greet and it was SO hot and awhile afterwards, I got that same feeling like I was GOING to faint but I didn't. I just ended up going back to the room and resting for a bit which did seem to help.
So I think most of my episodes are heat related, despite my staying hydrated, etc.

If you get bloodwork done, make sure they check your iron. When I graduated high school, I was horribly anemic and fainted a few times.

Thanks anotheremptysky!

I did get bloodwork done. I have low iron, but not enough to the point of anemia. Unfortunately, I did have a really high white blood cell count (one of the two types) which might indicate an autoimmune disorder but I don't have any other symptoms that would indicate that (thank goodness).

HEY there! I used to pass out a lot... it started when I was about 7 and the latest time I've passed out was about 3 months ago. I usually pass out about 3-4x a year and I get extremely light headed (to the point where I begin to black out) quite often. When I was around 10 I had gone to numerous doctors after my regular doctor ran some tests. I was asked numerous questions and then they examined my head a bit (brain). I don't remember exactly what was done or why because I was so young, but it was determined that there really was nothing wrong with me. It's just something I have to deal with. I seem to always pass out in the bathroom... behind the door... into the bathtub (pulled down all the curtains with me too!)... *shrug* for me it's something I handle. I always tell people I'm hanging out with that it's a potential problem and then what to do if it happens. Generally I catch myself and sit down quickly or lay down on the floor if I have to, anything to avoid falling and hurting myself and scaring the crap out of everyone. Nothing more embarrassing than passing out in an art history lecture class with 80 students staring at you (luckily one of the lovely girls who I didn't even know in my class took me to the hospital - this time after becoming conscious again I couldn't even stand on my own). If it's something that really really concerns you, seek further assistance. If your regular md says it shouldn't be a concern at this time, go with that if you'd like. But as always, better to be safe than sorry.

I used to pass out, and once I went blind when I was at a mall all by myself. It was really scary, I had to ask a SA to take me to the info center and there I told the woman that I all of a sudden had gone blind. I couldn't see anything, it was just a big bright light in front of my eyes! The women at the information desk wanted to call an ambulance, but one of them just sat me down on a chair and gave me an apple and a glass of juice. twenty very scary minuites lanter I could see. I went to the hospital after that and appearantly I was dehydrated. Daaah. But it was REALLY scary going blind. More so than passing out!

I never fainted until this year...it was very scary...it happened on a city bus on my way home from work. I am so thankful I wasn't driving home... I recently had a full physical and there is nothing wrong. The doc just said it was a panic attack. I would definetly recommmend a full check-up just for peace of mind :)

Yup, my story is very similar. I had several doctors, including specialists check me out. No one could determine anything wrong, except for the high level of stress in my life. Then, as suddenly as it started, it went away. I'm not saying you shouldn't get it checked out, intlset. But I guess I'm trying to say that you're not alone, and that sometimes there isn't a clear physical reason! Frustrating, I know.

Thanks, Greendrv! I'm just tired of trying to poke away at the reason! Stress causes all kinds of funny things to happen.

Honestly, I would NEVER decide not to get further tests done for something like that. Sounds like it could be many things- it is hot now, you may be stressed, maybe are not eating enough= low blood sugar, dehydrated... but why would you not get more tests done!! Part of that is piece of mind, and fainting, like Jill said, really is not normal!!
