I would really like to get back into inline skating as it is great exercise and the gym gets so tedious. I have some very old skates that I dug up from the basement and they were so horribly heavy and clunky, not at all comfortable. I would like to invest in some new ones but I have no clue what to get. I don't need the prettiest looking skates just want something comfy. I also don't want to spend a ton of $$ because I don't really know how much I'll be doing it, particularly because I live in a cold weather area.

Any suggestions? TIA!

I used to inline skate years ago. I had a pretty expensive pair of inlines but sold them when I stopped skating (although I held onto my quads).

Just make sure you get a comfortable boot and good wheels. If there is a hockey ring or skating rink around you can usually get parts and place orders there.

There was a thread on this back in March. I wrote a long response back then that you can review along with the other responses.

Rollerblade Suggestions, Please.

In March, I recommended Rollerblades because I was on my fourth pair at the time and the brand worked well for me. In May, I upgraded to K2 Celena skates because they seemed to fit well and I wanted larger wheels (90 mm) to go faster. I think I'll be buying K2 from now on because these skates fit me so well and are very comfortable. Fit is so important; if your skates don't fit right, you will likely get blisters.

I would recommend a ski/skate shop as the place to start if you have one in your area. Otherwise, www.inlinewarehouse.com has a great selection of skates at reasonable prices. Since you don't want to spend too much money, check out the 2007 skates at this site. If they have an older model in your size, you can get a great deal on fairly new skates. They have free ground shipping on orders over 99.00 and free return shipping on all skates.

Good luck! I hope you find skates that work for you and I hope you stick with it. I'm going to leave right now to get in my almost daily skating.

I wish more people would try inline skating. I got into it about 8 years ago to get into shape. Now, I skate as much as I can because it is so much fun.

The fitness benefits are an added bonus. Plus, skating is one of the best ways to get your butt, hips, and thighs into shape.

ditto on inlinewarehouse. that's where i bought my twister ii's. great urban skates. rollerblade and k2 are generally good. whichever skate you end up with, just make sure they are comfortable. comfort is what makes and breaks skates, regardless of tech and fancy this and that. since everyone will find different skates comfortable/uncomfortable, i would visit your local sporting goods store and try some on.
