Default Allergies so bad -- S.O.S.!!!

I have the worst allergies or anyone I know... seriously, they're so bad that people at work tell me how sorry they feel for me.

I've tried over-the-counter medications like Claritin, Claritin-D, Zrytec, Zrytec-D... it's really hit-or-miss on whether or not the medication will do anything that day. More often than not, it will do nothing.

Any suggestions? It's worse in the mornings and usually clears up my the afternoon. But in the mornings, I feel like there's a block of concrete in my sinuses... runny concrete... lol

Would allergy shots help? I hate hate hate going to the doctor...

Thanks for any suggestions...

You sound like my mother. She has horrible allergies and we live in an area that does not help. She tried all those meds and the only thing that worked was Zyrtec-D more than once a day, per her doctor. The BEST thing was the allergy shots though- when she did those, she was good to go!

I feel your pain. In the summer time I have the worst allergies. The best thing that has worked for me is a neti pot. It clears out my sinus and I always feel better.

A neti pot is a contraption that flushes your nasal passages/sinuses with warm water or saline. These work well to clean out gunk that has accumulated throughout the day, but ultimately you'd probably get the most results out of some prescription allergy meds. If you're suffering so much I'd really encourage you to see your doctor about it because there's a lot that they can do.

i have really bad allergies too. i take nasonex and singulair which are both by prescriptions. on realy bad days i have to add zyrtec and patanol eyedrops.
you should really consider seeing an allergist. an allergist will test you to see what you are allergic to and treat you accordingly.
i can never have my windows open as to the fresh cut grass, pollen and pretty much all trees trigger my allergies.
i had to make changes in my home too. no curtains. wood blinds instead of fabric. no rugs. change air filter frequently and the best of all, i can't dust or vaccuum. thank goodness DH is such a sweetie and cleans the house for me...lol
it can really be horrible to live with such bad allergies, but once you make the changes needed if any and get treated..it does get duable.
best of luck to you.

Good explanation.

I love my neti pot. It always flushes out my sinus and I can breath much better. You can find them at any natural type store or drug store.

For me I like the neti pot better than allergy pills. Most allergy pills don't help my sinus the way the neti pot does, plus those pills always make me so drowsy.

GIRL!!! I have NEVER had allergies in my life! Since coming back from California two weeks ago I have been nothing but miserable! The mornings SUCK, and then when I get going, get to the gym, by lunch time Im clear again. Then I come home for lunch and once again 10 minutes later I can no breath. Move forward to evening. Right around bedtime my chest gets so tight that it feels like someone is SQUEEZING my heart. I have been taking Zyrtec and another one...Mucleen..(I think) that really helps with the chest thing. Tomorrow I am seeing the doctor. Praise the lord. We have had the house tested for mold, which I highly doubt as we renovated recently and I think we would have found it. We are also having the ac ducts cleaned. Its a horrible way to live that is for sure. Let us know how you get on. Big hugs...Im right there with you.

I agree, you should see an allergist. My 14 yo son has SEVERE allergies, he takes allegra and nasonex is has no symptoms. If he does not take it he is a mess.

Go see your Dr for the right combination. Horrible allergies run in my family. My sinuses have been bothering me to the point where I am getting a bloody nose once a day right now - which NEVER happens. My brother does Zyrtec D twice a day plus a nose spray and that helps him. I have tried about 100 different ways and combinations... I have mine under control but my sinuses still can't take it and get irritated then a bloody nose...

Feeling for all of you sinus people out there!

I feel your pain..but my allergies aren't quite as bad as yours. I take Zyrtec and it is enough for my allergies on MOST days. Pollen levels are always highest from like 5-10 AM so I try to take it as soon as I wake up at around 6 AM

I used to have allergies as a teen when everything started blooming around here but it went away...until just recently! I think it's grass pollen now.

Right now I'm struggling...I'm getting over a bad cold but my eyes are itchy and red so I wonder if I have allergies on top of a cold. Somebody shoot me please <kidding!>

I am a wuss with meds but tried Mucinex (more for the cold/cough) at a friend's recommendation to keep the phlegm loosened and out of my chest. Yikes, I was so buzzed at work it was laughable and I had to hide away doing busy work. I literally felt like I had had 4 glasses of wine!

Sorry I'm not much help here other than to empathize and send you huge hugs, intl!

Try Claritin, Zyrtec, and Allegra D. If these don't work, you may need to get some steroids like Nasonex.
