Default Addicted to Day Spas

Over the past six months i have become seriously addicted to day spas.
My sister took me to the Pebble Beach Resort in Carmel for my birthday and treated me to a massage. It was sooo amazing..the massage was great, but what i really loved was the steam room! and the relaxation room and all the pitchers of ice cold water and little snacks. And how everyone walks around in a robe and relaxes.

I'm so hooked. Since then, i've been on a quest to find the perfect day spa closer to home so i can go regularly. i live in the bay area so we're fortunate in having so many of them.

My favorite so far is Burke Williams in Santana Row in San Jose. IT's sooo pretty inside and it's fairly inexpensive. They have a huge whirlpool hot tub and right next to it is this little room made of marble with sprinklers in the ceiling that spray a mist of cold water on you. Sooo refreshing after being in the hot tub.
There is a steam room! Which i absolutely love. I like to just sit there and breathe in the steam. This place has everything! For $40 (monday - thurs) you can use their facilities for the entire day!

I went last friday for a massage and ended up staying 5 hours. By myself!

So is anyone else a regular day spa goer or am i alone in this? If so, what are your favorite places?

You are not alone! My aunt owns a day spa and I love it! But, I do not like massages LOL!! It's sick, but I am so ticklish that even the thought of a massage makes me squirm

Sigh, I am a fellow addict...there's nothing better than letting myself completely unravel!

I can only do them for special occasions with intermittent massages for a quick fix during the rest of the year.

If you ever come south, try Glen Ivy Spa (Corona, CA). It was definitely worth the drive for me!

what I love most about my local spa is the steam room. WOW that's awesome. The first time I went in there, I was so scared. (its a steam room for a reason, couldn't see a thing)

I wish I could get into them b/c I think it would be a nice thing once or twice a year to take a day off work and go do. However, I just can't get into it and don't even enjoy facials, manicures, etc. Maybe it is a thing of finding the right place.

omg, i laughed so hard at the thread title. i was so "there" some years ago. i couldn't stop myself. as of now, i haven't gone in a year and half. i've really been wanting to go but decided to make it a treat for myself if i reach my next weight loss goal. and i agree, burke williams is the best.

I feel you, I'm completely addicted to massages. I really need to find a school or somewhere else where I can get them more cheaply. or a boyfriend might help.

I am also an addict, but I can't handle massages. I know they are supposed to be soothing but I am crying with tears the whole time and it doesn't feel relaxing at all. I am a big baby about it, I know :)

Instead, I do facials and body wraps and I love lounging in the facilities when a spa has them. I have been lucky enough to have had great experiences at every one I've visited so far!

I do local spa treatments when I can fit them in my schedule. The one thing I love to do when I travel is inquire about spas in the area and go for a massage and facial. My favorite treatment was in Isatanbul,Turkey. I went to a real turkish bath where they had a huge round piece of marble, with water running over the marble, in the middle of this huge room. There were several women attendants that treated each customer to exfoliation and massage. Needless to say I never had a treatment in front of 6 or so other women. It was great. They did not speak English and I could not speak their language. But we laughed and I had a ball.

I am a spa addict! I became a convert after a day at a spa in Malaysia. There is something so relaxing to just wander around in your robe and to relax either in the Movie room (reclining armchairs like Lazyboy) or the common lounge, reading magazine and having some snacks (free flow in a la carte buffet style) after your treatment.

I loooove them. I, too, am addicted. It makes me feel bad sometimes, because it is a very expensive habit, but it just makes me so happy and relaxed. I'm also guilty of adding on treatments so I can stay longer. I've gone on several destination spa trips (and have at least 2 treatments/day while there).

It's too bad I don't get the same high from working out or doing something productive :)
