Bonnie Cashin, who???

Newman looks more like competition for Clara, imo. They have similar sizes/shapes.

Bonnie Cashin was the one who brough Coach into women's accessories. She was their first design master in the vintage years... probably on into the 80's. I liked Coach during those years. They kept the quality that the company had been known for throughout their history. Cashin is famous for the brass toggle she incorporated into Coach bags. Today, Coach has changed radically. I don't think they have the quality they once had. Classic and well-made no longer seems to be their focus. They are focusing more on fashion trends.

I don't see the comparison between Cashin's toggles and clips and HH's oval turnlock. Sorry, just don't see it. Maybe someone more expert in Coach can post a photo of the bag that they associate with the Yves. Then we will know what they are seeing.

If I'm remembering correctly, one of the first items Coach ever made as a leather producer was baseball gloves. That got me early :) I've paid less attention to them in the last decade or so, not because I've noticed any lag in quality (which I'm sure is there) but because they're everywhere, repeat the same styles, and seem very suburban/middle America to me. (I'm not seeing their high-end stuff everyday at Walmart and the mall, just anything with the logo splashed all over it... and if I'm going THAT route, I want LV all the way, baby!)

Just a quick visit because it's been an exhausting day. FWIW..I see where some of you are coming from about the old style Coach Bags which I adore. Many current and now defunct design houses modeled their bags on her creations..or rather "were inspired by" her creations. I don't recall seeing the doorknob style pull that is featured on the whatsis bag..(totally brain dead..sorry). More like the turnlock that is on the Corcovado side pockets.

Photos are attached of some Bonnie Cashin bags. Plus a wool lined leather coat that I die for...(sorry..I need some eye candy for me.)

RMcC..that Farrow looks nothing like a football IRL..I will cease and desist because it is truly lovely. But as some of you remember, the photos that HH used on the auction were horrible. It was exceedingly difficult to determine exactly what it was you were bidding on.

Wait..isn't that often the case with the HH website and catalogues most of the time. Hence, my visits to the mothership when I can. I need to know when Fall is going to hit Greenpoint, hopefully before the onset of the HH Days..(High Holy Days..LOL) and make a quick descent inot the Bowels of Brooklyn to report back exactly what is what, how things compare to what we are familiar with and how things feel, smell, color comparisons, size comparisons...things like that..not so great with photos but am OK with written and verbals...

Yup Jenni..right on the money honey..as usual. In a nutshell chicas..just for you.

Please...stop looking for exact replicas of Coach flaps and turnlocks on HH bags. That isn't the point. Stand back a few feet or simply look at the thumbnail photos. Call it inspiration if you will. In any event, it's there.

Yep, some of the new bags + do remind me of a more polished Coach Willis bag that I have. (my only Coach)

I never gave the Yves any thought until I read this thread, now I think I'm going to "need" one.

I like Bonnie Cashin, she's one of my regular eBay searches. But I agree w/ the assessment of the newer stuff although I still like my vintage Coach leather bags.

Wouldn't that be better than spending 2 groupons? Even if it is only 30% off on the presale special, it would come out better than using 2 groupons to get the extra 10% off. KWIM?
This is just the math I needed! I am pretty certain the Cognac Yves is next on my list. I have one Groupon and was contemplating a second to get this. But I think I will wait and see if it drop to 30% off! (Crossing fingers)

I have to chime in here and say the difference is all about the shape/vibe of the bags. I agree (once again!) with RMC that there's no style conflict in owning both! I do love my Havana, but I am surprised that it doesn't hold as much as I thought it would (at least, not gracefully). Put large things in it, and the top flap just doesn't close and looks a bit odd.

The reason that I don't love the Yves is because (again) it screams early 90's Coach to me.. even the colors..
The Havana is HH's signature bag IMO... you have to try it at least once!!
