Thanks, Leo! I hope Stormy or RMC posts here to give us tips on posting pics... we might need to be posting thumbnail attachments as WELL as any links to hosting sites (like Photobucket) since when we delete those over the years the links go dead... thoughts? Also, Stormy had a suggestion earlier for how we should "title" pics for ease of searching, but I can't remember...

I think Stormy suggested that you title the pic with the name of the bag instead of leaving it how the camera names it. It makes searching for specific bags easier.

I just loaded the Saddle Ana pics this morning and as sleepy as I was I forgot to rename them. Sorry, Stormy. And, it is past the 30 min edit time. I did not use photobucket or any third party photo server because I know how many feel about that.

I think 3rd party photo handling ONLY works if you are the type that keep your albums organized and once you place a photo in its spot - leave it there. The problem with the missing photos are 1) someone wants to tidy up and moves a photo elsewhere in their photo album, or 2) run out of storage space and delete it because it is "older". So, if you are going to use Photobucket, Picassa, or whatever, decide up front that the photo will stay where it is first uploaded. When you upload a photo to these websites, and then go to TPF to post them - you are just posting a "path" that tells internet land where to go fetch it from. You break the path and tPF can't tell where to go to get it. Simple saying to keep in your head - "If you move it you lose it".

If you are running out of space, don't delete a photo. Photobucket accounts are free. Open another when you run out of space. All you need to do is get another free gmail email address to use to open another free Photobucket account. You can use the same password just tack a number at the end for account 1, 2, 3, etc.

Now, if you use tPF, it is slower. Takes more steps. And, you have to somewhat "double load" the photos. The slow part is that all JPG images have to be resized before uploading them into photo management. Your photo will have to be under 195 kb. Thats the kicker for most non-techies. Maybe someone can post free photo-sizing programs they use. I use Adobe's Image Ready because it not only sizes, but optimizes a photo for internet all in one process. But, that has a purchase fee. I've also studied PIXresizer which is a free one. I recommend that to my agents. What is nice about that one is that it has a one-click "Use Recommended" feature for the non-techie. And, it will work with multiple files, as well as single images.

If you upload photos using tPF's Photo Management, you get just a thumbnail in your postings and every viewer will need to click on each one of them to open a large photo. So, besides the Photo Management upload you will want to embed them into the message also. The process to load the photos directly to tPF and NOT use another site, do the following:

1.) Be sure to use GO ADVANCED to input your message and photos. In the center part of that window, is a Photo Management section and clicking on that will open another small photo work window called "Photo Management". In that window, you are allowed to upload 5 photos (tPF max per post). Click on each "Browse" button to go to your computer's files and click on the photo you want to upload. When you've selected your 1-5 images, click on the button toward the middle of the window that says "Upload". Don't forget this, because if you close the window before the upload, you won't have your photos in the tPF system.

2) When the photos have finished uploading, you will see a list of them with their names in that window and over on the Advanced Post Window. I hate to scroll, so I keep the small window open and drag it to the side. I then type in my photo titles in the message window leaving a space between each of them.

3) When you've finished typing in your descriptive titles (captions), go to the Photo Management window and click on the purple hotlink to the photo you want to embed as a big image in your message. When you click on this it will open another window with just the photo shown large.

4) Click on the URL address (the http:// gibbrish) at the top of this photo window to select it. Copy that URL by holding down the 'ctrl' key on your keyboard and pressing the 'c' key (this is for PC). (The photo's URL should be a website address which will start with "http://forum.purseblog.com...").

5) Place your cursor where you want to place the super-sized photo within your post (below it's title or caption) and click on the 'Insert Image' icon (the small yellow square with the mountain scene on the tool bar at the top of your message window).

6) The box that opens when you do this will have a square to paste your URL. It will show a http:// in gray. This is to show that the default has opened with that "http://" already selected. You can just paste direct and your URL will paste over the grayed http. OR, if you don't find this is awkward for you, simply set your curser to the right of the grayed "http://" and back space to delete it. Then paste your URL in the clean box.

7) Paste the URL into the box by holding down the 'ctrl' key on your keyboard and pressing the 'v' key (again, this is for PC)

8) Click OK

You should now have a wierd-looking gibbrish in your message that has [IMG]http://...

This is the code for the photo to show later. You will not see your photo like when you copy and paste a picture in other programs (like WORD). To see your photo, and reassure yourself that it is truly there, click on the "Preview Message" next to the SUBMIT below your message work window. You can keep going back and forth previewing these as you go. When finished be sure to click on the SUBMIT REPLY button.

Photo software:

I use Picasa on my PC...it's also available for MAC, and it's FREE. It's not a third party hosting site; it's software that you download to your computer.

You can organize albums, do simple editing, add a watermark and it even has a one-click function for resizing photos. Easy peasy.

The photo imaging/sizing part of Picassa is software, but, it is my understanding that if you store into the albums your are doing a web album share situation much like all the other 3rd party sites. Also, some people may need to be cautious of Picassa running in the background on their system. It will organize your photos into albums (previously folders) but everytime you add a new graphic or clip - or if you an artist, draw your own - Picassa updates and reorganizes. This can be a problem when operating beefy programs like Adobe Suite or Corel.

Also, it can be a problem with some virus protection programs that go a bit crazy trying to scan every Picassa refresh in the background. Just something to know about before going with Picassa. I keep having to turn it off when I'm in an illustrator program that has it's own back-up running random with Picassa's AND Trend Mircro's.

I don't think it will be a problem with a system that only runs text and accounting data type files.

Nope....hard drive only. They do have a web album feature but I don't use it.

If I'm not using it, I close it.

P.S. It's Picasa with one s for anyone looking to download.

2 Questions:

1. Are we allowed to post the same bag in the same color?

2. what is this thread used for? Chatting about the library, questions about the library, requests, questions about a bag?
Shhh, this is a Library!

Lulu - I'd like it if we could post the same bag in the same colour. Different cameras and light conditions change the colour and it would be good to be able to see a variety of shots to illustrate that.

Also - bags are posed differently - interior "stuffed" shots, modelling with different heights/body shapes etc.

thanks for all the info.

I'm using 3rd party (Flickr) right now b/c my photos are all too big for tPF to handle. Next time I shoot and process some I'll keep the size in mind and use the correct procedure (and when I have time, I'll change the few I've posted).
