Thuy...oh..I blush..and of course it's late and..I can't sleep..I was thinking about the shinkendo I practiced before my car accident..and remembered my sensei's katana..and the handle and gorgeous hilt/hilt guard...so maybe a clasp like the hilt guard of a katana..not one that functions..just purely decorative..with a turnlock clasp..(not like the one on the wallets..more like the one on the lido wallets..but which will look like the clasp on the Clara bags and wallets.....

and I can't see why the leather handles can't be wrapped with a complementary leather and stitched..I've seen it done on other designer bags..and I seem to remember seeing something like that on one of the Fall '09 bags..(or was it whipstitching and it is just wishful or magical thinking?) I hope that HH can interpret your design/vision/dream bag for you..a harmonious blend of imagination and manufacturing at it's best.

Thuy..I am sorry..am I putting too much input..or suggestions?
I am in love with the photos at the Tokyo train station..and your friend ZAnPon's work..PLMK when he's going to be exhibiting here in NYC..and next time you stop here..let me know..please please pretty please...Isamu Noguchi sculpture garden in Long Island City and other delights await..LOL (OK..I admit..I am tempting you.)

jordanopolis..I can't wait to hear/see/read about your designs..I really am not ignoring you I apologize..

(It's ALL about the pears, Gingey!!)

Missty, I'm just catching up... love the sketch and the specific details you're working with. I totally saw bamboo wrapping up around the handles... but it's also similar to the little o-rings of leather on the Havana/Lorca straps to keep the adjustable tabs down, so it should be something they could work with... hoping for the braiding!

And I'm loving the shape--it's lady-bag(ish) but also reminiscent of a knapsack or bundle tied to a staff... might be all the memories the refs to early 80s anime that made it to TV, but I'm also remembering this crazy live-action series called "Monkey Magic"... one of the travelers (Fish?) had a staff with a hobo-like bundle at the end... loved that show with a passion, but it might not have aired over here (I watched it in Australia).

Thanks again for sharing the process with you!

I loved reading your thread and your sketches too! You definitely gave things more thought than I did, I was like, "Um I like blue, maybe." I also finally replied to them today, after two weeks. I hope they aren't all like:

Anyway I'm sorry you couldn't do your own lining, your artwork or your friend's artwork would both have been very fitting for the overall look and theme you're going for. I hope you continue to share your thoughts, and I will start a thread too!

Paelaf, I sent some rough sketches to Joanne (she's working with all 5 DYOB winners) about 2 weeks ago. I didn't get far enough to ask about approximate production time. Now it's just the waiting game. :P

Missty, if you hear any more details, do update! I've only traded 1 e-mail with them (my fault, not theirs). I've been sketching in my offtime (I've probably drawn like 100 bags) but I still have no idea what I want... I'm kind of scared to e-mail them back.

Maybe when I send them sketches first I will ask 1) about the turnaround time and 2) what the process is from here on out, what our hardware choices are, ect...

Yep, it's pretty much the same rudimentary sketches I posted earlier. Sorry, I've been quiet with updates since I'm still waiting to hear back from Joanne too. Im kinda stressing out a bit about color combination of the bag so I was hoping to have a poll or something later down the road once the initial design is developed.

You were thinking black and purple as the contrasting, right? I love RMC and others' ideas of the interior of the pleat being a different color... are you convinced you want a black bag?

I was just thinking, looking at the artwork you love, draw, all of it, maybe even more of a pop? Yellow? Green? Whatever it is, they could use that color thread for the stitching (think the purple stitching on all the ginger bags this season.) And of course, it should appear in some way in the lining fabric. Maybe that's a place to start, actually. The lining, rather than the leather, since they told you you'd have to choose from existing patterns.

Oooh.. (she says, going back on the high-contrast idea) Cordovan with Ginger pleats.

Existing leather combos:

Cordovan w/Ginger pleats (Painterly lining)
Eucalyptus w/Lagoon pleats (Painterly lining)
Black w/Iznik Yellow pleats
Black w/Kelly Green pleats
Purple shine (or whatever it's called) w/Kelly Green pleats

Hmmm... ran out of steam. Must need coffee.

Hehe, the cordovan and ginger reminds me of the canvas wyeth tote sample back at the design shop

Thanks for all the color combos jennirane!

It's just initially I thought black shine as the main color with grape shine as the color of the inner pleats, because I like contrasty colors against black. But I'm not sure if I want a black bag entirely. Eucalyptus and lagoon is pretty! I was aiming for a fall bag but that's a really pretty color combo. Black and iznik reminds me of something fast, like bees and superheroes

Then I thought, maybe grape shine! But it's hard to pair purple with colors since purple stands by itself. Maybe Grape shine/grey shine?
