I saw that, thanks, Lulu! We were talking offline a bit and the design will have to be slightly different (the actual segeo has to be threaded through a loop in the katana, and the bag's handles probably won't be able to accommodate that), but we'll see how it turns out.

Yes MB or perhaps Oyster would be incredible based on the sheen of the PVC. Then again, matte white will be awesome as well.

THUY!!! I just have to say that this looks better and better with every update. I also like the E/W change, but at the end of the day it is YOUR bag and you should do whatever feels right to you. This is truly an amazing design and I pray they get the braiding right because that will certainly be key to the whole feel of the bag. Well done!!!

Thuy..the prototype is stunning even with the glitches.PVC or no PVC.

I have something in mind for the handle..based on whipstitching on a handle I've seen on another bag..arrgh..I can't seem to wrap my brain around it..(OMG..bad pun)..I know I've seen it on another designer's bag..and then the braiding might be able to be built on the whipstitching..you know..kinda like when you cast on for knitting and then knit a few rows..why is my brain NOT functioning..

In some ways I do hope a version of this goes into production..but in other ways I wish you truly would have a one of..and dang..I want to see that goldfish charm.

XOXO

Missty, I'm not sure if I've posted on this thread yet, but I just wanted to say that I've been following it the whole time, and I'm absolutely in love with your bag. It's gorgeous!!! Everything about it. I can't wait to see your actual bag once it's made! And like Gingey, I kinda hope it stays a OOAK, but I selfishly hope they do produce it. Congrats on designing such a beautiful bag and charm!

OK..Thuy....here's the casting on stuff...all of it..no time to edit or pare out..http://images.google.com/images?sour...N&hl=en&tab=wi

Look at first page, stitch diva..that's sort of the idea I'm thinking about..am I insane?? Then look up whipstitched handbag handles..maybe the two could be combined to at least get you a bit of what you are going for...I also have a vague recollection of trying something with slashed and knotted tubes of fabric..maybe HH could do the same with a tubular handle cover...sorta like what's on the Origami but stitched flat..WHY am I having a brain fart when I need it the most..headache is NO excuse for this..

Oh..maybe this will help..another brain storm moment..not totally zonked I guess...sorta what I was trying to explain...http://images.google.com/images?hl=e...=&aqi=&start=0

reminded me of the punk stuff I used to make...

There are other knitters here and they might throw out some other ideas, but there are many many different ways to cast on for knitting. They all give a slightly different look. Some are designed for elasticity (eg when you are casting on for a sweater) and some are decorative.

These are just a few. The provisional cast on might be best - I can't think how it would work on a handle but basically the handle would function just like the waste piece of yarn shown in the link.

Thuy, I went back and looked at your prototype again. Now that I've taken time to study it, I think the east-west proportions are a good thing. I'm wondering it it were evenly tall as wide, if it's hexagonal silhouette wouldn't have a stop-sign feel.

Ok I figured out the katana knot! Sorry it took so long, I didn't get a chance to sit down and mess with it til today. I used some scrap ribbon to simulate the flat cord and tied it onto a letter opener, so that gives a good idea of the shape. I used the tutorial I emailed you, Thuy, and it worked like a charm, so the HH people should be able to use it just fine.

So here's the deal. The knot should be threaded through the little loop in the katana handle, but since it would be hard to put a little loop on your bag straps, I think you can easily fix that by securing the center of the cord with a stud. You'll see in the pics I'll post shortly where I secured the center of the ribbon with tape - at the fold in the ribbon, one stud holding it down would work perfectly. The knots were fairly easy to do, and if you do them with flat leather strips, I imagine they'd hold pretty tight. Maybe one additional well-placed stud at each end of the knots could hold them more securely, but I really think they'd stay as-is.

Obviously, for the real knots you'd use a solid-colored leather - the ribbon I had has a pattern on it, but that kind of helps show you the direction of the ribbon/knots.

One tip - for threading through the final bit of the knots (the ends going through the length of the knots), you should use a crochet hook or something to pull the cord through. I was in the kitchen so I used wire bag ties to thread the ribbon through. Worked like a charm!

So there you are. Pictures coming in a sec. That was a fun project :)

Hum, I can't help you there, Bat. I have trouble myself figuring that one out. Missty- as far as the bag goes, I kinda like the east/west a little, too. I love the whole shape/concept of your bag, and I am really thrilled to see it when it is complete. The hardware is going to look great; I am glad the sample place is going to make the adjustments that you have specified. I was thinking, you should do an entire collection on this concept. I am already dreaming/picturing a clutch for this as well!
