As farr as my research goes, the S/S 07 bags that were only partly white were the

White with green floral: Orsay, Montparnasse, and my fave... the Beatrice
White with graphic plaid: Pallenberg Duffle

My guess the one you need to exclude would be the Beatrice. That leather is real soft and drapey, like the chalk havana that came out that season. I would say the two had the same leather. I would check the Orsay & the Pallenberg. In both those the leather is used as trim. In the Orsay, the leather is a larger panel and seems to wrap the bag.

Montparnasse Weekender, S/S 07

Pallenberg Duffel, S/S 07

Pallneberg Duffel, Leather Trim Detail, S/S 07

Orsay Satchel, S/S 07

Maybe you can ask which bags James Dean leather was used on and we can scout the web? And my last pic... don't think it is the leather but is just tooooooo beauuuuuuutiful not to post...

I can always rely on the ever so helpful RMC. Thank you for looking it up and posting all those beautiful pictures. I was wondering if they used it in the the pallenburg duffel. After looking at those pictures, got me thinking aboutthe stitching. Contrasting, or a light, non-flashy color. Hmm

Thuy, you have so many splendid details on your bag, I wouldn't dilute them by adding contrast stitching. I can see the bag having stitching in a silver or buff gray color to land somewhere between the white and the gray leathers, keeping it all tonal. But that's just what I see.

I was wondering between white to blend in, or a really soft off white color.

ITA w/RMC about the stitching, Thuy. A silver or VERY pale grey (so that it would simply disappear in the Euc panels, but not stand out too much on the white). I'd ask/wonder if you could use two stitching colors (white for the white, grey for the grey).

It's nice to see these again together and in this context (especially the Bea and the Orsay) to see a primarily white bag with contrasting trim... it's going to be lovely...

My current "white whale" is LP's Dylan Large Bowler in Coconut... someone described it as a "nutty" white (off-white, I guess). For that bag I'd MAKE myself put caps back on pens and never set it down on a dirty surface; I'd invest (literally) in Wilson's so they'd never stop making TLC... sigh.

I would recommend hitting in the middle of the two. The stitching on your bag runs in line across the white leather onto the grey. If you used white thread it would stand out on the gray pieces. If you used gray thread, it would stand out on the white. Whichever direction, the thread would be a full contrast on some details and would attract attention to those details. If you use a color inbetween the two, it would be more subliminal. I would say it depends on which mood you want to create...

BTW, I don't know if this is the most recent HH sketch, but regarding the "pondering" you had above as to whether the flap applique should be gray or white... I vote for white on white... that has such a clean vibe to it. I keep wondering if an applique in the gray wouldn't totally upstage the contrasting pleats to either side of it. I still am digging those handles and that strap. Oh, I hope you and HH agree to doing something like that on a bag for production.

^^ So what would be in Euc, then, RMC? Just the pleats at the bottom, or also the strap and its fittings and the stripe and curve above the applique?

Jenn, it's scary how often you pull out a bag that is one I've been eying also. Compadres! I am not that much of a LP girl. Its those exposed edges. But, when I first saw the color of this one, it was "I heart". What a perfect off-white color.

Sistahs...

It is definitely the perfect off-white color. Right now it's still over $400, though...
And I guess there's the major difference btw our styles... I'm definitely rough-around-the-edges. The LP Dylans are so "me" it's scary. They almost disappear on me. Jeans, cardi, basic bag. I feel special in dressier, nicer bags (like my Trophy will make me feel) but for disappearing into my rumpled professor self, the Dylans are perfect.

Hilarious. I have a feeling there is nothing "disappearing" about that professor... especially in her classroom. I have to admit, I am gadzooks about LP's new Lola Double Handle and wish that was the bag they offered in coconut. When they debuted that one, they started to appeal more to the "suit" in me.

BTW, Thuy, I am not ignorring Jenn's question about your applique. I'm thinking! Didn't want to rush on that answer. Love your work.

I'm 100% with you, RMC. I wanted it white on white all along as far as the appliqué goes. I just didn't voice this to Joanne when she made the mockup sketch, and was horrified/embarrassed when I saw the contrasting appliqué that I immediately photoshopped the appliqué off. I wanted to keep the contrasting euc clean and simple: pleats, crescent swoop, horizontal line above crescent, knotted straps. What I'm debating is if I should make the shoulder strap white or euc (a part of me is gearing towards white). And still thinking about lengths so I don't render the shoulder strap useless if it's at the same handle drop as the rolled handles (I can't help it, I'd really like a braided shoulder strap - is a crossbody a bit too much for this bag)?

Also debating about lining... I'd like to keep this bag for a lifetime and more, and was thinking perhaps I should opt for a canvas. But if they had the small chance of using that watery silky liming from S/S 09, it would be beautiful for this bag...
