RMC - no stealing away into the night from you or gingey then I like the white/gray too. I'm tempted to go with that since they don't really make many white bags often. Plus, the the light contrasts with the samurai influence is interesting (instead of a darker color), makes it blendable to everyday activity. Do you think the smile might be an issue? To me, it's kind of like a secret smile :)

Thanks sirene! Maybe with enough cajoling, we can get it into production and we'll have our chance at the black/purple too. Ah, wishful thinking.

Cody, while my friend and I were talking about complementary colors that go with purple, the idea of grey/purple was brought up at one point. I think purple/grey/white always make a nice combo, but I think with the current top 3 I have it takes a secondary tier vote. A white leather bag would worry me too, but I think I'll just have to super careful with it. I guess in a way, it'll make me treasure it more. A risk I'm willing to take :)

I'm almost tempted not to do anything for the front since it looks pretty good the way it is now. Just add a charm and call it done (ah.. that's me giving up for second there)

Or maybe just do something really, really minimalistic...

Now, Thuy, I didn't say there wouldn't be any stealing away of the bag during the night... just that you wouldn't need the bodyguards during the day. You're only halfway to safe with the white/gray combo. I don't think the smile is an issue. It is a secret smile. Well, unless you were to do the bag in orange shine with black accent trim... then that jackolantern would give the smile away. As I said before, I like the lady Di-meets-ninga thing going on with the white/gray. But, my heart, ya know, is for that bottle green with Tobias brown...what an elegant combination. But you are wise to stay away from the San Paulo green with brown. Nope, I don't see that. And that's saying a lot coming from a green lover.

I just noticed on these sketches the little side loop thing going on at each end of the zipper. I like that. The way they did the curved top with the whelting to keep the curves shape is sort of like my Farrow bag. On that one they did just a small looop for the shoulder strap. Because the strap is short (even shorter than the Havana's) it doesn't fall enough to one side or the other for me to get to the zipper between the two ends of the strap. The way yours is done will let you adjust length by choosing which loop to hook the strap into, plus the larger loops will allow the strap hook to shift on the loop - and the shoulder strap should do as the sketch shows, draping over the front. They did some good structural thinking on this bag.

Hi Thuy,

It was nice speaking with you today!

So I took a poll with all the girls at the office and they agree that the bag would look great in White trimmed with Eucalyptus. We all love the unique samurai helmet detailing, too.

As I said before, we'll need to figure out the exact leather consumption of the bag once we make a prototype. We'll have more clear answers on exactly which colors will be available then, but I think it will work out with white and eucalyptus.
-------------------------------------

I couldn't take looking at it anymore, so I redid the colors pictures without the octopus decal to help envision a different one (and fixed the white/grey handles into the white color while I was at it)

Thuy...sorry schweethart...still in danger from me..the grey/white combo is gorgeous..I would be far less brave than you if I ordered it though because I would be less afraid of dirt than of transfer from almost everything..especially jeans...I remember reading that whites do get dirty from jeans and other dark dyes..I'm not trying to be a wet blanke..I just remember my own Oyster Tharpe and seeing posts about other light colors...on the other hand...is the grey going to be GZ? If so, would the white be Chalk or Oyster or white?

Sheesh..Thuy...what I'm doing here reminds me of what happened when I was pregnant with my first child..and everyone kept telling me horror stories of how difficult labor was..kinda sucked the joy out of my primo experience..but then I found out "for reals"...and didn't know whether to keep my mouth shut when someone asked..or tell the truth..the key was "when someone asked"...so amiga, you can politely..or not so politely, tell me to "shaddup"..and I won't be offended.

Now..that Black Purple beauty..even without the spider..reminds me of another of my childhood favorite guilty pleasures..Dad used to buy me comics on Sundays as a treat..so here goes.."The Phantom"...(not the Manga version..but still great)...hopefully these snaps will upload...every superhero was dark and twisty..probably shaped my character a bit..when I think of all the time I spent hiding out in the basement to get away...with my flashlight...my hidden stash of comics...a box of ______, a canteen....and amazingly wonderful silence.

Thuy..the finished product is going to be TDF...selfishly, I wish they would put it into production..but your color choice should be a one of..and your personal touches should be just that..yours..but ah..I can dream..and I found myself sketching pocketbooks last night at 12:30..when I should have been making my to do list..you minx....look what you've done to me

XOXO

LOVE the goldfish charm (would be great if HH sold them!) and Thuy - beautiful design work on the bag! I like your lotus flower idea in lieu of the octopus....

RMC - That'd be funny, orange and black smiley jack-o-lantern. Or maybe just go on full comic book style with yellow and black (because of the recent movie, the yellow smiley face reminds me of Watchmen). It's too bad that they don't have a jaguar bottle green in their arsenal. Maybe if we start now like fafnir mentioned, we can get them to produce one by fall 2010

I looked at your farrow again and I can see where the similarities in structure. I think it'll be an interesting shape on how it holds/stands. The physics of the bag structurally with how the strap hangs, I'm pretty happy with how things are shaping up :)

Gingey, Joanne mentioned that it's a white that they never used before, it was a prototype sample that never made it. It's just called "white." I asked Joanne to send me a sample of the white color so I can take a look at it before I make the leap. It's more for color than anything. She mentioned it's on the end part of the skin where the joints of the cow, so it'll be softer and more worn. I think for now the grey will be eucalyptus. I trust that it's fine for leather handbags... and they'll send me a sample of the eucalyptus as well. Grey zeus would be cool too if it adds that marbling texture seen in some GZ. Hmm, I'll have to think about that one, if I want a more warm green tone or cool, marbly grey.

You don't have to worry about offending me, it's all part of the production and feedback. :)
I remember the phantom (the character, haven't read much the comics). Maybe I should have a big talking bubble above my bag, in action pose :P

Happygirl! Glad you like the goldfish charm. I'm drawing a blank for now on the front decal so I shifted gears to making a goldfish sample. Hmm, I'll upload for you guys to check it out :)

Default Goldfish charm sample model
After sending the sketch to Joanne, it looked like she needed something 3D to help the designing process. I sheepishly told her that, um, I don't know how to fold the origami per se, but I can produce something to mimic folds to give an appearance of an origami goldfish (as expected in producing the charm itself also). She said that would be cool, don't worry about it too much, and I went out to the super to buy an exacto knife, and picked up a folder pamphlet of Qwest cable internet services on the way back :)

Cut, cut, cut

Opening the exacto knife, I accidentally sliced my thumb. Good job, Thuy, good job.

So it'll look something like this. The appearance of it being folded, but really a cheat cut and paste of strategically placed shapes. I was thinking about doing this in yam, or yam shine. Or, perhaps, both leather types according to how the contrasting patterns are placed on this template.

I'm going to pack this up and send it to HH, along with a couple of my favorite drawing pens (Mitsubushi UMR-1 draws very fine, clean lines, love them) for Joanne and co.

Okay, now I'm going to sleep. Will be working overnight for the next month so I'll be on a funny schedule/somewhat daytime hiatus. Goodnight :)

Thuy I adore how your bag is coming along! Please don't drop the decal! I love the idea of the japanese crest. I have that japanese design motifs book with about 40,000 of them--probably the same that are available at otomiya.com. The center top one on this page (or a simplified version) seems like it would be beautiful!

Thanks paelaf! I feel like I need to take a break from the decal for a bit. Joanne requested a physical sample to have something to look at, so I focused on that for today. Maybe something will come to me on those sleepless nights :P

And it's shipped!

Awesome. Do you think when she said it was a prototype leather, that they are considering it for Spring 2010? I have been wishing HH would do a white or semi-white bag. I have never had any maintenance problems with a white bag and have never had any dye transfer. So, I hope they do white... and if not, think of it... you'll be one of a very small, select group of owners of white HH bags.

Wow Missty! I want that bag. Your bag is looking fab!!! You just impress me more and more everyday. That looks like something that they would have come up with for the fall line. It fits right in with all the TDF bags I want. Like I said before, I think they are probably loving working with you. I bet all the girls at the design shop are going to want one of your bags too.Have you ever thought about doing your own line??

You're too sweet Nikki I'm glad it looks like it's along the lines of what they make, because I still want to have the HH feel to it (well, I guess if you use their leather, and hardware, and tassels and all it helps) :P I think Joanne might be slightly annoyed because I keep on calling and asking her questions/modifications/etc... lol. The HH design girls are excited about a white color bag because they haven't seen one made yet for a long time. It would help if all the girls would want it to, help boost production possibility cred

My mind likes to think about creating a lot of things. A designer handbag line crossed my mind, but it's a fantasy dream for now. It's just I have too many things I want to do and gotta pick at it one at a time.

Ooo, missty, thanks for the tip about the mitsubishi pens, I've been searching for a really fine, clean drawing pen to take on my trip. Does Art Media sell these, by any chance?

Fafnir - whenever I visit Japan I make sure I grab a bunch of the UM-151 pens, since I couldn't find them in the states. This was when I was back in early college. Now, with the great internet here, you can get them online!: http://www.jetpens.com/product_info.php/products_id/306

Mine is the 0.38mm. The 0.28mm draws much finer lines, but my personal preference goes to the 0.38mm for its smooth lines - just glides across the paper. Plus, I find the 0.28mm easily clogs. Definitely recommend these pens, they're the best I've come across.
