wow....this is REALLY exciting!
Adore the sketch, the shape is amazing and I love the overall vibe...... Now, I have not read every single post, but upon first glance at the sketch, I noticed that the zipper does not continue around the ends and thus it MAY be an issue getting in/out of the bag....... others have mentioned that this is an issue w/the Corc - just a heads-up...... |

gingey, IKWYM about the links and folders. I think I have so many things on my laptop, it actually crapped out on me recently and I need to get the thing rebooted. I'm using BF's laptop in the meantime, which means sharing time with the much used computer :P
Needlepoint, how very interesting! I can see how those links come in handy :) It takes a lot of time and diligence to work on, so kudos to you making one for the entire family :) RMC, you're right on the $. I did want to get something water involved. I thought a sea creature like an octopus might work, especially since it has the eggs popping out (I have...quirky, humor). I hope you don't mind, gingey, but I went ahead and asked Joanne to make a sketch of it with the octopus just to see what it's like. Like a desert chrysanthemum, she said. :P I'm not really sure if I'll go with it or not, but I want to see how it goes with illustrator rendering it (I need to get that program sometime). I thought the goldfish keycharm woud be cute, and it doesn't necessarily will be on the DYOB bag, but an added "bonus" I can clip on other things too, teehee. I thought it would be too hard to fold the leather as a paper origami, but rather, cheat, and cut and paste appropriate folded parts to certain sections. So it has the appearance of being folded. Joanne it would help to have an actual folded origami for visualization of the design, and I was thinking the same when making that sketch. blammy, I brought up the question to Joanne too, and I'm not sure how wide the mouth will open, but she'll reconsider moving it. There's also the physics of the bags too, where the braided strap is attached on the ends while carrying, so I'm not quite sure yet. I asked Joanne about a possible jaguar bottle green, and the closest thing they got is the prato green via sao paulo crossbody, which is also a stiffer leather. Not the same :( http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_4sn8Eev9rn...ody,+prato.jpg |

I have to say I'm not 100% sold on the idea of an octopus, but it might look cool on the finished bag. It's definitely great that you are branching out creatively though.
I absolutely love the idea of an origami goldfish! What colors would you do this in? Would you throw in some shiny gold accent hardware?! |

Melody, I'm still not sure about the octopus decal. At this point, I feel like my bag won't make it to production because it's too specialized for it to join the ranks of future collections.
My friends, we're an odd couple of art/japanese sub-culture geeks, thought the octopus thing is funny. I just like the idea of eggs shooting out of it, lol. I was thinking if it doesn't make it, might as well make it an inside joke for us :P Maybe a water lilyflower, or lotus flower. I think there are many traditional aspects to the bag, I would like something more contemporary on the front to balance it out. I went from like mondrian, abstract, kamon styles (but maybe going too traditional, maybe kamon-influenced)... still working on it. The goldfish, if I go with a black shine/purple combo or white/gray, I was thinking maybe yam or yam shine. |

I'm not sure if you addressed this earlier, (so if you did, sorry) but I have some thoughts about the applique. I noticed in the mock-up sketch that HH sent to you, they called it a patchwork detail. I also noticed you are concerned about too much detail in the applique (because it would be hard to put together with patchwork, maybe?). Now, I was wondering if you've considered a combination of both patchwork (say, like the mushroom keychains from HH) and perhaps also quilting (like the detail in the cloud luggage tags) to work some of the detail in there? Just a thought.

Thanks for the pointer seppyfish. I forgot about the quilting detail also, have to rethink things.
Joanne sent me a couple more sketches (along with some alternate view and color mockups with the octopus, for kicks). I guess I forgot to mention to her that I was thinking about making the front decal the same color as the main color, so it's looks kinda crazy and I'm almost reluctant to put it up, haha. All part of the design process. BF says there's an evil dynasty feel going on (with the evil octopus/horns in the bright colors). ![]() Octopus decal (lol) ![]() Alternate Views (with feet!) ![]() White/gray, Black shine/grape shine, non-existing green/chocolate (yea, and the decal in front is crazy too out there) :P Well, at least now I know, lol. |

They look so cool! I love the white/gray one. IDK but something about the black and purple one calls to me too!!! How FUN! Thank you so much for sharing this process!

I don't know if it's because Gingey mentioned "Spidey" but the black/purple one reminds me of Halloween, complete with spider!
![]() White/gray looks the best in the sketches! It also looks less spider like and I see the whole octopus/egg thing. |

Thanks dreamofpompidou! :) I wish I could get both re black and white too.
yea, in sketch form the white/grey look best. The black/purple does have a dark, sinister thing going on because of the vibrant octopus too. I'm back to the drawing board with the decal :P |

WOW it's really coming along! Since they don't like Green for some reason maybe just maybe someday they will bring back the emerald goat *crossing fingers*
Missty I really love the grey and white one too and as DOP^^ said The Grape and Black has a fierceness that just draws you to it. |

Fierce, rich show-stealing bag was what I was originally going for lulu, so I had my mind set on black/purple. But now I'm also looking at the white/gray and it seems like a favorite at the HH office too.
------------------------------ Hi Thuy, It was nice speaking with you today! So I took a poll with all the girls at the office and they agree that the bag would look great in White trimmed with Eucalyptus. We all love the unique samurai helmet detailing, too. As I said before, we'll need to figure out the exact leather consumption of the bag once we make a prototype. We'll have more clear answers on exactly which colors will be available then, but I think it will work out with white and eucalyptus. ------------------------------------- I couldn't take looking at it anymore, so I redid the colors pictures without the octopus decal to help envision a different one (and fixed the white/grey handles into the white color while I was at it)

I like the white & gray best. On the black the cross band betwen the straps and the curving band of the pocket below looks like a smile while the two gold connector rings against the darker background looks like two eyes. Like a smiley face. I have got to say that it is a pity that HH does only that shamrock green color (the San Paulo?) and not a beautiful dark bottle green. But, on the plus side, it will save you money from having to hire bodyguards to keep Gingey and me away from your green bag, LOL.
I think what I like about the white & gray is the undercover thing going on. Just a glance from the distance and it has a refined, ladylike spectator look - like lunch with the ladies in the Hamptons. But then on closer ground, you get the surprise of the ninja samurai thing. |

I really like the black and purple one--but I tend to be a bit fierce (or at least my DH says so). The samurai vibe is fantastic

I love the white/grey but I would be SO terrified of carrying it because I just know I'd spill everything imaginable on it. I am also REALLY loving the straps on this bag! So gorgeous! Has a grey/purple combo been suggested (either grape shine for more pop or for something more muted maybe eggplant)? I think that would look great too.
