Several, actually. Off the top of my head: Monica Botkier, Rebecca Minkoff, BE's Jackie...

Really? I had no idea. I guess this would be the place to get a majority of unbiased customer feedback. Still, it's pretty awesome to hear from one of my favorite fashion designers. I doubt I will ever be able to meet her in person, since I leave on the left coast now.

btw, should I stop hitting the refresh button since tomorrow will be the day to hit this sale?

well, if HH send their bags to some Hollywood stars, it will be as successful as Rebecca Minkoff.

Thanks for posting, Toni. It is always a treat to read your insights! I'm so sorry to hear that the FW09 footwear collection is a no-go. That collection is so very AMAZING!!! It is such a shame that it will not see production. I am still envious of those ladies who wear size 6/10 and were lucky enough to score the shoes during the fall preview auction!

Uh, so it's true no Fall09 fabulous footwear? I was hoping to snag a few pairs. If I would have know that I would have bought a pair during the auction.

btw, I love me some Jeff Goldblum. I've always thought that he was kinda sexy, in nerdy hot kinda way.

Hmm, it sounded to me as though Spring 2010 would be the last of the shoes for a bit. Maybe I'm reading it wrong?

BTW, thanks for posting Toni! I love HH and appreciate the insights that you have given all of us.

Miss Curly you might be right. I guess she did say Spring 10 will be first and last for awhile. Not sure what is meant by first, since it will not be their first time turning out a shoe line.

I'm pretty sure she meant Spring 2010 would be the last for shoes for awhile-- they work so far ahead the spring collection is already committed to -- I so hope they made all of the boot styles in the lookbook -- I am in love with all of the short boots!!!

In my humble opinion I really dont see any reason to compare Hayden-Harnett to Rebecca Minkoff. Two totally different styles. The only similarity is they both sell handbags. Hayden-Harnett is in a class of their own & I think Toni & Ben have reached the ultimate goal that they were aspiring to. I really admire them. They may no be perfect, but if they were they wouldn't be the Hayden-Harnett that we love...warts & all!

Very well said I <3 bags. No offense, but I really don't get the comparison between these two handbag designers. Can someone please clue me in to what brought on this specific comparison?

They are actually both indie handbag designers. I started the thread to discuss, contrast and compare their product branding and business models.

Not interested in bright linings vs. dark linings as in the Botkier thread.

ITA with syb this was not a compare and bash and trash..it was simply a discussion..nothing about CS and QC either. Swolfie...eyeheart..this thread was meant to be kind of a town meeting where we all got together to talk about these two designers.

Why these two designers..why this topic???..syb..the OP just explained. I would love to start another thread with HH and another indie brand...but I decided not to because I believe it was already covered in another subforum and it would bring drama that I'd rather not have here. Suffice it to say, one of the issues was too many visits from the designer..and another was not enough openess to compare, contrast, discuss that brand with other brands..so I'm pleased that this thread hasn't deteriorated to a free for all..((HUG))

Great topic. Especially for those of us who look for input/insight on why some brands become popular, others are for a while, marketing in the digital age, stuff like that. I for one respect most designers for their vision, no matter what it is. And TPF is a forum for discussion, debate and free speech on topics pertaining to the brand in the subforum.

This subforum in particular usually is a friendly place for us to debate pros and cons of things. I am happy that Toni posted here, and I learned a great deal about the "behind the scenes" portion of HH. But for the most part, I believe that this should be a "designer free zone"..so that we can continue to feel free to "chat" here. I believe that Toni did, does, and will continue to respect the nature of this subforum. I respect her for that too. Obviously, she is aware of what her customer base wants..hence twitter, facebook, and even here at times..but here rarely. I wonder what prompted her to appear when this thread appeared because we've posted so much about the pro and cons of HH. Perhaps it was because she felt that we were unkind to RM..which in some ways, is refreshing to see one designer give props to a competitor.

I'm not berating anyone and this is an opinion as is yours..which I respect. I really enjoy the openess here..I left another subforum and stopped buying the bags because of what went on there. So here I am, and here I'll stay..((hug)).

Toni - I hope you'll come back to this thread to see my post. What I want to say to you is simple - I don't consider myself a fashionista by any means, but Hayden Harnett is the FIRST and ONLY label to have me hook, line and sinker... from handbags to outerwear to clothes to shoes, I've never loved so many different items from one line before. I feel like I've discovered myself through HH. You and Ben had me at "quality unique items"! Thank you!

RM on the other hand grew her market out of who did carry her bags. In fact, the handbag branch of her brand may not have even birthed if it wasn't for Rebecca's good friend and actress, Jenna Elfmann, asking her to do the handbags for one of her movies. RM has taken full advantage of her west coast location and it's resulting customer base. That is good business. I know she has done marketing things that we "Jane Average Customer" may think are the best things to do to protect her brand, such as shallow discounts, refusing to honor coupons, and excluding her line in store promotionals. But, I have been watching her marketing (since that is my busines, I pretty much watch everyone's marketing) and I think it will be interesting to see how that premise holds for her. She has a fragile customer base in her initial market - the west coast. California is having its own economic challenges. I now see more photos online of actresses sporting HH for Target, than I do special order RM. It could develop into a trend. Think back to what got you to buy your first RM. Was it because you just saw the bag sitting on a bench at a train station - or was it because it was spied on the arm of a celeb as she embarked on a flight to Bali? This is not to say RM's market approach is wrong, just different from HH.

Tip toeing in....

Actually, the bag that Rebecca designed for Jenna never made in into the movie.

http://ebags.liveclicker.com/v/1178/...morning-after/

Rebecca is originally from San Diego, however her design roots, as well as her "initial market" began in NYC. Rebecca's bags are much more main stream, and can be seen on the arms of many a "Jane Average Customer" in NYC. Demand is bringing her lines into stores and boutiques across the US. I expect as she becomes more known RM bags sightings on the west coast will only become more and more frequent. One can only hope!
