I hate to admit it but I have been one of those known to make do with a 2.54 plastic water bottle from the grocery store. However, after a rather uncomfortable moment dealing with a bottle splitting during a board meeting. I think I need to opt for something a bit more durable - and perhaps a bit more professional than Spongebob (OK, so that water bottle was on sale).
RMC, I love Sigg. I just sent all my "old" ones back - they let us do that through Oct. 31 - to exchange for the newer ones with the "safer" lining. That's all they sell now. My favorite style is the wide-mouth because you can get ice in it and it's easier to clean.

That said, they're not great for kids, b/c they just bang them around all over the place and they get dented.

I've bought directly from Sigg and Whole Foods, too.

In my experience that seems a typical consignment deal. It is a complete rip off and you are better off on Bonanzle or even the Bay in some cases. Good luck with it

If my high end item is priced at 50% off retail to start, then I only get 40% of that.... ummm... is it even worth it?
Cho, I have been dealing with the vintage consignment shops in our area, and that split is pretty much the norm for the business model. Another thing you need to check is how they handle price reductions. If it is their decision when and how much - and you have to live with it - then it is even less favorable.

I use consignment shops for my merchandise (or Mom's for the vintage shops) when those items have flaws, marks, spots, snags, or some feature that I think may be problematic to me if I were to eBay it and deal with feedback. I figure the beauty of the consignment shop is the customer sees it IRL and makes the choice. With eBay, you can specify the flaw, show photos of it, and still have an unhappy customer come back at you. And, the hassle of that makes any proceeds worth even less than the consignment split.

But, for either the consignment or eBay, I first google the expected tax write-off allowance. If that is higher than what I can expect after doing all the work getting the item saleable, time and gas to take it to the store, or the hassle of auctioning it online - then I opt for the tax deduction. I consider that deferred income off my item. Of course, that depends on your tax bracket, and the item. I can get more more value in a tax deduction on a business suit than I can trying to consign it in our resort community. Now, kitchen appliances works the other way. I get more for them at a garage sale than the IRS gives me.

You mean - besides different capacities, colors, styles, mouth sizes & caps - there's also the issue of the lining? Yipes, this is harder than buying a new car. I was looking at the wide mouth. I don't generally use ice in any of my drinks. But, I also thought that looked easier to clean.

No the lining situation has been all worked out. Don't worry about it with any bottles from Sigg that you buy now.

Sigg sells these little minty-smelling fizzy tablets you can use to clean the smaller-topped bottles - like Alka Seltzer - you drop them in the hot-water-filled bottle and let them sit for a half hour. Kind of fun for the first few times but it gets old. The wide mouth is really easy to clean, and they can all be run though the dishwasher.

Camelbak just came out with a stainless bottle. I like their bottle but they're a bit weird ifyou haven't used their stuff before. it has a straw in the bottle and a pop up mouthpiece that you have to bite to open a valve to drink from.

^^those are what I get my kids. I love that you can drink from them at any angle and that they've replaced the plastic ones with a safer material. But the little tab you use to push up the valve (KWIM?) broke off my son's. (If something can break, my kids will break it LOL) It left kind of a sharp piece so I took it away. Still good bottles though!

RMC, I got the wide-mouth sigg when I exchanged mine, and if you don't put ice in it and don't drink from the wide mouth, it's a hassle. On top of the wide mouth opening is the smaller opening... and when I want to only open and drink from the smaller one, more times than not, the big wide mouth opens up! Frustrating when I'm trying to open it in the car and have to close it and reopen the smaller mouth.

Angie, I thought putting any sigg in the dishwasher was a big no no!

I never had the fizzy pellets to clean it. Clean just fine w. a little vinegar when nasty. Shake w. some water and repeat...

Before I got the new one, my old version was allll banged up from the babe dropping it, banging it around... It had gone everywhere w. us. I think the dents give it character.

I like having a 1L sigg. I don't need to refill as often. I got another brand's smaller size and was surprised at how often it needed refilling. Sometimes it's hard to find a filtered tap around here, so just something to consider.

I think 1 L is the minimum. Anything less and I have to go to the office kitchen more often to refill - and it is when I go to the kitchen that I get caught for extra "free advice" which cuts into my production time.

That Camelbak looks interesting. This past year, I broke myself of the diet coke fountain drink habit I had for 30 years. For over 3 decades I had stopped at drive-thrus at least twice daily (often 3 x) for a 32-oz diet coke. Which my family and coworkers called my "big suckie" (their take off of the 7-11 Big Gulp) since I am such a straw person. I use a straw even with a normal beverage glass. Training myself to a drink bottle has been difficult.

Thinking about you TM.

Is it funny that I feel like a voyeur when I read this thread? So I don't too often.
