Aww MissA, sorry to hear about your little guy! Keep him rested...pneumonia's no fun. We go through it with older DS (mild cases) every year, usually around jan/feb. Hope he feels better soon!

thanks Enga, Moth and Carlie

You're all very sweet. Carlie I wondered if you'd dealt with it before.

^ we have, but thankfully it's always mild. He gets his chest xrays, we confirm that it's pneumonia, and he gets his antibiotics. Usually it clears up quickly after that. I'm hoping we might skip it this year, so far we're having a relatively healthy fall!!

angie - hope your little guy gets better fast. Rest plus antibiotics should do the trick.

I just whipped out and got both my H1N1 and the regular flu vaccine. Whatever I had last week might've been H1N1 but who knows? I'm in high risk category because I have asthma and have had severe pneumonia before. I was hospitalized for 8 days in 2002. My family doc reminded me twice last week to get the injection. So I'm all fixed up now.

We have an appt to discuss it with his dr. Honestly flu shots in general make me really nervous...I know they say it doesn't give them the flu, but we all got really sick after getting them last year. And older ds has an egg allergy...so yeah. We'll see. We probably will get it for him, but I want to make sure we make the right decision ya know?

OK, 2 of my 3 have had the regular, seasonal flu shot, but they keep running out so my oldest hasn't had it yet. None have had the H1N1 b/c our county can't figure out how to distribute it BUT - my pediatrician did say that for DS1, if it comes down to a choice - to get the regular seasonal vaccine over H1N1. I thought that was interesting.

And Carlie that's the second time this week I've heard that someone got really sick after the shot.

eta - thanks Sally! Hope you're done with illness and those shots keep you healthy now!

I was super impressed with the way the I got the shot. They have blocked off 2 parking levels for free H1N1 parking, they had extra security people giving directions, a tv in the waiting area for kids - the organization and efficiency were incredible. I had been dreading going because I had heard about long waits so I called the flu hotline and they said they had big lineups this morning (2 hours) but that hardly anyone was there. I went right through and got my injection without waiting even 1 minute.

They are definitely warning that the H1N1 seems to give a bigger reaction than the regular flu shot. I took ibuprofen as soon as I got home just in case. The nurse asked to give me the H1N1 in my left shoulder because I guess it causes more ache and I am right-handed. I may feel crappy for a day or 2 but that's much better than getting the flu. I got the regular flu shot in my right shoulder.

Actually - it's been about one hour since I had the flu shot and I can definitely feel that my left arm feels more achy.

Sally, what a handsome young man your son is. No wonder you worry about him - girls could cause him all kinds of trouble.

Sorry to hear so many of your and your family members aren't well. Hope everyone recuperates quickly.

Finished knitting my first scarf. If I can teach myself how to do this, anyone can. I have exceptionally poor hand/eye coordination and a poor sense of spatial relationships and I managed to turn out something wearable in two days while watching TV. Next up - another scarf, but with more advanced stitches.
