So, with the news that the Biblio might not drop until December (see "Biblio" thread)
, I'm having to re-think my Fall bag plans. Might end up with a Trophy or Trophy Satchel after all, but I also like the Franklin. I have heard very little about this bag, though. Has anyone ordered it? Seen it IRL? It looks a bit on the slender side, as I like to have a lot of room. But it's a very appealing bag otherwise, especially in Aubergine... what think the HHHotties?

That's the bag I would love to get in yam. I think it will age beautifully, but I need a price drop before I take the plunge. I have a Tobias and it's very nicely made, and I realize it costs more to produce, but $625 - ouch! I like the Burke too. There's a new video up for it on youtube.

I just saw the Burke on youtube. GAve me a totally different feeling for the bag. It looks all buttoned up and briefcase-like on the site but the video made me feel like it is actually a handbag. Neat pockets.

Now that I saw that Burke video on youtube I'm wondering how close it is to the trophy satchel in size. The Burke seems like a nice east/west satchel, has the longer shoulder strap plus the tote straps, good outside pockets, hmmmm....

Oh no! I want it now! Ugh!! This always happens with their videos. I love how the pocket in front flaps up to open.

i too have been contemplating this bag, i am huge satchel girl and the handles are calling to me... since they are different than most, i am seriously thinking of this one in grape...w/ 2 groupons of course... and the 15% hhthanks... i think if my math is right it would be 50% off then..
670 x 15%+ 570 - 350 (2 groupons)= 220 + 150 (groupons) = 370; not too shabby... and since i have other trophy's maybe 1 in yam would work and then the grape burke... please correct me if i am wrong... and dreaming in la la land... lol burke looks smaller too me than the TS. |

The Trophy Satchel is wider than the Burke. If you need a size comparison and are familiar with the Dominique Satchel - the two bags are the exact same size (and pretty much the same shape). Another good comparison is the Sloane Satchel. The Burke is 1/2" longer but 1" narrower than the Sloane. Both are same height.
One thing to note on the Franklin Bag. Don't pay attention to the photo on the model. It is out of proportion. The dimensions of the Franklin are 13"x12". The way the photo looks, the bag looks comparable in size to the models back. Either she is extremely petite or the photo angle was wonky for a realistic scale association. Also, it is only 3" deep. That measure includes the section gathers, so functional depth is less. If you know you like the Tobias (which, BTW, is only 1/2" narrower than the Franklin) you will like the Franklin. However, if you are a satchel girl that likes the proportions of a bag that is generally at least half as deep as it is tall (usual satchel proportions) this bag is going to feel small for you. If you are a Clara Flap Bag fan, be aware that even though the Franklin and Clara Flap are both the same depth (3"), the functional use is entirely different. On the Clara you have full use of the depth of the bag. On the Franklin, a portion of that 3" is taken up by 4 layers of leather in the gathers. Plus, the edge-welting is measured in also. So actual clearance for storage will be less - and divided into three sections. Just a bit of architectural review here, LOL. One thing I like about the Franklin is the clever way it is built on the top. Like the Tallulah video, you can slide your hand into the interior of the bag without having to raise the flap. That gives it thumbs up for functionality. |

BTW, I was sure hoping the Burke remained riding under the radar so that it would go on deep discount. Sallyca, shame on you for mentioning the Burke.
![]() ![]() ![]() Now that I know it is the size and shape of the Dominique satchel, I have added it back onto my list. For me a satchel the size of the Dom is a great size for church or evenings out. I can't go less than that in size. |

Similar to what RM mentioned.....
I would be concerned about the bottom gusset and just how capacious it is and the ease of finding/removing objects inside the bag. Can you just plop things in OR do you have to strategically place items inside????? Just a thought.....I too like the streamlined aesthetic of the bag too! Kinda reminds me of some Jas Mb bags....... AND, the fact that the Frankilin is slated to appear in Dec...... SUCKS!!!! |

Wow, thanks for the analysis, RMC, that was really helpful! Sigh. I do like the streamlined aesthetic, as blam says, but less than 3" of useful space? I don't think that's going to work. Maybe if it goes on deep discount... but then it won't be my fall bag.
![]() The Grey Shine Trophy is looking better, depending on whenever that drops... |

Sorry for mentioning it - RMC!!! Just sharing the love!
Pursegal - I just looked on the HH site and the aubergine (doesn't come in grape) is for sale at $536. HHfallthanks (if it applies to the sale price) takes it to $456 so you need to get about $40 of something in order to use 2 groupons. If you got the price to exactly $475 and used 2 groupons you would need to pay $125 plus the $150 you originally paid for the groupons so....is it a bag that is worth $275??? (Part of the $275 would be for whatever else you got to bring it up to the $475). Has anyone reported or commented on the aubergine leather? It looks nice in the video. |
