Faf - Have you ever had a Clara? I had one and there was plenty of room for my stuff so a bag with slightly less capacity wouldn't be an issue.

Syb, is the Clara around 13" x 12" as well?

Sally, I think Jen had one of the aubergine wallets and was not fond of the leather. But that's in a wallet - it's probably different for the bag, like grape is. Von Maur didn't have anything in aubergine.
eta - oh wait! But I think dmc posted pics of her sample aubergine burke somewhere? Is that right? |

Syb, the usable depth on the Franklin is not "slightly less" than the Clara. IMO, it is radically less. If you take the 3" of Clara and take away two layers of leather (say 1/8"?) you would have a usable space of 2 7/8 deep. On the Franklin, you would need to calculate 4 layers out plus some space lost to stitching and gusseting. I would estimate the usable depth to be 2 1/2". BUT, it is not one space. The 2 1/2" is divided into 3 sections. The middle section is just a slide in sandwich between the two outer bag sections. So, if we ignore the center section, and figure just 2 sections sharing the 2 1/2" of air space... well, that isn't going to live like the 3" clearance of the Clara.
I think Franklin will be a fine bag for someone who totes papers, envelopes, thin paperbacks or magazines, wallet and such things that are fairely flat. But, it could pose a problem with items more than 1" deep. Also, from what I see in the photos, the belt passing through the rivets is decorative. I don't see buckles to open it up to let the bottom fan out. |

Sometimes it just comes down to function vs looks, I guess. I carry stuff like books and water bottles, so yeah.

Thought someone might've tried to talk me into or out of the Burke??
If I got it - it would be my first purple bag. Scary. |

I think purple is a tricky color to have in a bag. Eggplant, yes-- it's dark enough and muted enough to almost be a neutral. But I would probably tire of a purple bag pretty quickly.

![]() You're right Enga - I forgot about the pomp. I was thinking of big bags though. Colour in a bigger bag is a bit scarier. |

I love Nikki's grape Newman. That purple looks so deep and rich and rugged.
And the aubergine is nice in a different way. Did you see the Burke on youtube? The colour looked very strange. |
