Question for Stormy: I'm getting a Yam Conrad (yay!) but all I have is Apple Garde leather conditioner. Would that be okay to use on it? Meaning I don't have any Wilson's leather conditioner.

HateTo Be Late ~~~ I am glad you asked before using AG ! There have been some misfortunes reported with Apple+ HH in the past. The Kiwi products found in your local drugstore or shoeshop are great. What you are looking for will say water and stain protection for fine leather. Mine is the red can and is called Protect-all. (there is a Meltonian version, rain and stain protectant)
The usual caveats apply: fine mist, spray evenly, don't drip and do it in plenty of fresh air. Your bag doesn't need conditioning, just some protection. There is more info about Yam and also some bits about AG in this thread. |

Thank you Stormy, you're not too late. I doubt that the Conrad has shipped yet. Thank you so much for your knowledge. My main reasoning for asking you about AG conditioner was because somewhere in this thread Cooper1 mentioned her Yam Havana and that she would condition it when it seemed a bit dry and being I basically live in the high desert, I figured that could easily happen here.

Ah Ha ~ I have lived in High Desert and that comes under the special environmental conditions that I have covered earlier. Thank you for the additional information ~~~ YES your Yammy would LOVE a little help. A water-based conditioner would be ideal ! I did a test sample to confirm that Wilson's TLC Leather Lotion is perfect for your locale. What you need is hydration for your leather. You can safely use this on all your leather, to avoid extreme drying and maintain supple, happy leather. Oily or waxy products may hasten drying, by choking off the surface; leather may dry out from the inside ! This can lead to dryrot, which has no remedy. So......you could skip the spray but use TLC Lotion; it will not spot, stain, or darken the Yammy !

Thank you again, you're a life saver. I ordered one bottle of Wilson's leather conditioner to add to my stash of leather care. And you know what? Apple Garde really upset me, oh 6 months ago or so. I had a Gustto Baca, applied Apple Garde conditioner to it and it totally changed the color of the leather! I was so upset! After that, I've been terrified to use it.

Anybody try the Wilson's leather lotion now that the protectant is sold out? It was so cheap with the discount and free shipping I ordered some.

Just got the TLC leather lotion and it is love. I conditioned my Sao Paolo as well as some Frye boots. So much better than waxy shoe polish and it took very little elbow grease. Just applied it and buffed it to a shine once dry. $15 for three bottles with free ship.

Hiya Stormy! I've used the search and couldn't find anything but .. is there anything special I have to do for my Indigo Patent Havana?
Should I treat it? With what? Are there any special instructions I should know? I've never owned a patent bag before .. so have no clue. Sorry if this has been answered before .. I couldn't find anything. |

Dear Stormy,
I searched this thread regarding handling of the distressed metallic leather but did not find anything (other than don't spray and carry a cloth to wipe )Anyhow, I've been thinking of taking my distressed bronze Corcovado on the plane with me to Utah. I know nothing about leather + snowy climes, so was wondering whether you had any care tips. Should I leave it at home and take something more rugged (e.g., Cordura? heh heh) Thanks! |

Cciele, what do you have that's HH? Being I live in cold, snowy, dry Utah maybe I can help too. But still, great question for Stormy as I would ask the same thing of her if I had the distressed metallic leather.

Yes, Cindy I was thinking of asking you too but I was in your Conrad thread and didn't want to hijack :)
I am thinking of bringing Marcel and/or distressed bronze Corcovado to Utah, and wasn't sure what to do (if anything) in preparation for possible snow exposure. Marcel might fit under my coat, but Corcovado definitely won't! |
