Maybe one day we'll be big and fancy enough to have many cool care sub threads like Bal does ! For now our individual bag makeovers can stand on their own. I have questions about that Malika paint job ! Even though every bit of the bag is recyclable, It's fun to get extra use from a structurally sound unit. I am gad that HH does not coat canvas with plastic, but that means we have work with it au naturel. No not THAT au naturel !! OK, if you want....

* Reminder - the free shipping at Wilsons works only once for your tlc
I am also buying UV protector from LM to apply after R&S. I want to keep my whites white, euc euc, pink pink and lagoon minty.

Has anyone had troubles with kisslock frames pulling away from cloth - becoming unattached ? Or unduly loosened Kisses ?

Just updating - Take an exta 20% off this weekend 8/20- 8/23. $3.20 now, so stock up. If, by chance you're spending at least $75, code 6525 will get you free shipping - Anyone want 24 bottles of the stuff?

Laura, I noticed it was $3.20, but only for ONE item, tlc, care lotion, or wipes. If I tried to order multiples, it didn't go through.

Did anyone else have this problem?

It says one time use, but not one item use. Perhaps they misworded it. I just tried it and the same thing happened. Maybe you can order by phone?

Stormy,

Thanks for chiming in about UV protection on the D&S Chat Thread! Your above post indicates it's probably a separate treatment? And am I correct in assuming if leather has UV damage it will look faded?

Hi Stormy,

I have my first HH bag (A black Athena Sac) here, and another on the way (the Black Athena tote), and just had a few questions about the best care for them. I followed your instructions and worked out that the Sac is finished leather, i'd assume the tote is too.

What I was wondering is - would any of your care instructions change if I live in a tropical climate? I'm talking 6 months of medium humidity (about 20-50%), not a drop of rain and constant beating sun, followed by 6 months of extreme humidity (gets up to 90%) and torrential rain nearly every day. I'm just at the tail-end of the dry half now, heading into the wet half in the next few months.

Would you recommend anything different for their care? Or in terms of conditioning frequency, anything like that? (Both bags are brand new, btw)

Wow that's a good twist on basics. Your mild weather, no problem but protect from too much sun, yeah. The wet season, protect with rain and stain guard, carry a large plastic bag for sprints through the worst of it. Don't let it get soaked completely, and dry well with towels and air between uses. You'll need minimal to no conditioning which is mainly to keep moisture in the leather. Leather can mold in the tropics from ambient dampness. OR you might even go ahead and use a very light conditioner under a waterproofer* BEFORE the wet and use desiccant packs inside as often as possible. An old sock filled with crystal cat litter works fine. Midway through the next dry season, use a light conditioner.
*My waterproofer is KIWI in a tin, heavy duty mink oil, but there a lot of good ones

(try mini searches inside this thread for tropics and Vancouver,)

Australia the movie took us all through your year of weather, why I kept wanting to call the seasons the dry and the wet, is that correct ?

Spot on for where I live, the top-west corner of Aus. There really are only two seasons here, Wet and Dry. The Wet takes some getting used to - I moved up during the worst of it and it actually felt like the air was hugging me when I stepped off the plane. Even when it's raining, it's still hot and muggy.

The southern states have more normal weather thankfully, although I nearly die of cold when I go back now, lol. I managed to get my sister hooked on HH on my last one though, so suffering the cold was worth it.

Can anybody explain (Stormy?) the Patent Leather process? How it's done etc. I was wondering if it is a coating over a dye or more of a paint. I wanted to see if I can make my Cordovan Celina bracelet patent leather?? Is that a crazy idea?

I just bought 2 TLC (thanks for the tip) $6.40 total with free ship. I clicked thru a free ship coupon on dealtaker.com. It came up automatically.

Hi Stormy (or anyone who has dealt with this), I'm once again the proud owner of a Beatrice (leather/canvas) and am wondering if there's anything I could/should do to pre-treat the canvas part of it... I searched the Care thread for "canvas" and "Bea / Beatrice" and found mostly posts on cleaning it once it's dirty... could (or should) I use something like Scotch Guard on the canvas part? Or would it be too hard to block off the leather parts? I know the canvas on these is just printed on the top, and I'd like it to stay fresh and bright as long as possible. Thanks!
