We do yams but we also do sweet potatoes. They are 2 different colours.

Maple shine-- wouldn't that be a pretty leather color?

Fabae, I have always considered you to be a well known Hottie! You are one of the original Hotties! Just because you have not posted as much lately, it does not take away your hottiness.

I confirmed with hh last midweek that the sample grape shine is like VM, and the new one will be like the grey zeus finish (laminate vs high gloss topcoat finish). Absolutely the problems were discussed, so who was genuinely surprised ?
I explained metallics & laminates and the potential flaws up in the Care thread way back when we were discussing flaky Violet Metallic. Shine can be achieved by a variety of processes. Samples, or mock ups, can be cut from any available leather in a close finish/color. (leftovers?)... Not that they should be sold ! Somebody mentioned source moving from Italy to Brazil. Italian novelty leathers are some of the finest on earth. Don't blame Italians ! They are working very quickly to create new, some quite amazing, leather finishes (laser cuts, new finishes & heavier laminates, colors like you can't believe!) and there is hot competition among the tanneries and finishers. Since hh was already getting Cowhides from Brazil, the source consolidation is logical. Anyhow, the grape shine sample run was a flop, but we can expect good things from the final production. When all the bleep hit the fan during the summer, we'd have been supportive had we known the truth, I think. It's so easy to deal with facts and impossible to fathom mysteries. Who needs mystery cash transactions ? Thankfully Ging gleaned a peek into reality for us. With this topic spread out all over the forum, I wasn't sure where to post, so I hope this is OK here. The VCP on zeBay is "peeling" according to the description, but the photos just look very worn to me. I don't have any CPs because I was nervous about this happening with those laminates. I remember some (rare) VCP blisters but if there are real wear issues, who has experienced them ? I mention it here because they are related. The CPs and sample Shines are laminates. Any laminate can separate, peel, blister or flake if its not made or maintained properly (for example exposure to extreme heat or dry conditions, abrasion, etc.) A thin laminate will wear through quickly to the underlying layer(s), color or leather. Jenni's bracelet looks like the kind of normal wear seen on VM edges (from the pics). Sorry for the loquacious ramble, sometimes I try to cover too much and other times, don't say enough in an attempt at brevity. and please don't anyone fight in here. I agree with Syb that honest disclosure would have been helpful, for reasons I stated above. We are in this together. ![]() |

I agree with you Stormy, about the fighting part. Some members need to stop being petty & stop picking fights with others. Well said, "were all in this together" & it's supposed to be fun too!

Thanks for the wonderful explanation, Stormy! I've pretty much decided to just live with the peeling on my bracelet, but am glad to know the process will be different for the final leathers...
But I think you're agreeing with Pigalle and others who said that honest disclosure would have been helpful; I took issue with the other post for the reasons I stated (and agreed with Pigalle that the disclosure should have happened.) If non-disclosure constitutes actual fraud, I just didn't think this was the appropriate place to discuss it and I didn't want the thread to degenerate into general HH bashing as some others have... so no fighting; just trying to keep us on track :) And back to the leathers... I do have an ICP (Lorca) and have noticed a bit of peeling, but I guess because it was "crinkly" to begin with it doesn't bother me so much as what we saw on Carlie's bag (or even the edge of my cuff), since they're "smooth" (the flaking seems to stand out, KWIM?) It'll be interesting to see the new versions... I did like the high shine of the samples... so after your discussion with HH do you think the new leathers won't be as shiny? (More like the Zeus leathers?) |

I'll be thrilled if the new grape shine is similar to zeus leathers. I never had a problem with those wearing, but all the CP Trophies I've owned have gotten wear on the corners. Thanks for all the info Stormy.
