Default Zippers (the ultimate discussion??)...

Hello to you all in the World of Purse Forum!

How is everyone doing?

Well, as you may have noticed via the title of this post (and I hope that this topic fits here...) but out of the two Luxury Zipper giants do you prefer? Lampo or Riri?
Can any of you tell the difference? Would you, say, purchase a handbag or accessory only made using Riri zippers versus Lampo, or vice versa? I'm just especially curious about this because, really, zippers are a very, very important part of a handbag and such.

What the verdict, Ladies? (and gents, of course!)

Ive never owned a bag with riri or lampo zippers. I do have a pair of prada pants with riri zippers running up both legs. The riri zippers are nice, but I don't think they are any better than the YKK zippers that I have on most of my jeans/ jackets/ tano bags.

I don't pay attention to zippers quite honestly lol I haven't met a zipper that I've ever had a problem with or that has broken off. I don't even notice a difference in zippers.

LOL, me either! My first thought was...oh, they come in brands? Nice to learn something new though.

TBH I don't care about the zipper as long as it functions. I just thought zippers zipped I didn't think there were different qualities, you taught me something! lol

I think the YKK zippers are nylon, and they are very sturdy. I have a few bags with the metal zippers that might be riri and lampo because they are very, very subtantial, but I love both applications. I wouldn't not buy a bag just because it had a certain zipper.

Timely enough, my daughter just brought me her favorite pair of white jeans she got from Maurice's and the zipper is broken. I took a look close look at it and it's YKK. Hmmm! Before I would have blamed the brand of pants but now I'm going to start paying attention to zipper brands as well. She's hoping it can be fixed..I've never tried to replace a zipper before so I don't know what to tell her. I'm going to take them to the cleaners today and see what they have to say. Might be easer just to get her new pants.

The best zippered bag I've ever owned as far as the ease of the zipper opening was a Roots Emily bag I bought back in '04. Everything I've owned since then has never run as smoothly.

At my tailor it cost $7 to have a zipper replaced, so no worries about breaking one

YKK also makes brass zippers. I have a brass YKK zipper on my Donna Karan bag. It's a nice quality zipper. However, I don't pay attention to the zipper brand as much as I pay attention to the material and smoothness of the zipper. I don't like nylon/plastic zippers. Zippers have to glide open smoothly.

Lampo is really smooth! And the Ykk zippers that Burberry uses also... I love that.
The riri on my fendi bag is not smooth at all!! Maybe it's because it's a large zipper with big teeth...
But since I noticed the difference between these qualities, I am starting to pay attention to it more!

So far, it seems like most people don't pay attention to hardware/zippers as much as I do?
Oh, my.
I seem to be increasingly particular when it comes to the hardware of my bags and accessories.
YKK, I know, is the worlds largest manufacturer of zippers (that's why they're used just about everywhere, and on just about everything! A lot of my sister's Juicy Couture handbags and clothes utilize YKK zippers as they're cheap and of decent quality).
Lampo is a high-end zipper based in Italy (if any of you all have vintage Gucci pieces, or pieces from Yves Saint Laurent, Chloé, Versace or Balenciaga to name but just a few, chances are they're Lampo zippers). They glide especially well, and last a very long time.
Riri, on the other hand, I find are used by the really, really big fashion houses that are obsessed with quality (supposedly, Riri zippers are the finest in the world!) Hermès, Valextra, Smythson of Bond Street (swoon) and some others utilize zippers from Riri.

Anyhow. The reason why I've posted this is...well...I'm not too sure, actually.
I think I just wanted to see if anyone pays attention to even the smallest detail in the handbags and accessories they purchase.
Now I think the ultimate test is for everyone to go into their closets, take out all their bags, check the zippers, run them over a few times and report on their findings!

...You know, just out of curiosity, is all.
