Default Would you add a strap to a clutch?
I got this clutch last year and hardly used it, I thought perhaps adding a strap to it I would use it more. It's a really soft leather too, so I'm worried with a strap added, the bag shape will be ruined. What do you guys think?

Hey! I can not see the pic......
I love a clutch with a wrist strap instead of a long, over the shoulder strap.....

Here's the pic:

And I dont like clutches were it's strictly hand carry. I don't like having to stuff it under my armpit in order to be hands-free. I prefer clutches with shoulder or wristlet straps. It's more convenient for me.

I would first see how it works if you take a scarf and tie it as a handle. see how it slouches, and how it feels under your arm - is it too bulky, ect? The challenge with shoulder bags always seems to be how they distrubute their weight.

there are some fabulous pictures of scarf straps in the Hermes forum - both in the Hermes catalouge Le Monde a few years ago, and with some member's restoration projects.

clutches where
typo. feh.

And I agree with Vintage Leather. Or you can try to find a chain strap (with those removable clips/clasps) and use as a strap too. Something like this (not my listing)?

Rebecca Minkoff Chain Strap

Although for that type of bag I'd be worried. Like, if you open the lock in front of the bag and lift the flap up, the chain/scarf strap might come loose/off.

I don't think a strap will mess with the shape at all.I think clutches are a little unpratical too.I would add a chain strap too it.

That should work with that bag. But you know I hardly ever use my cluthes for the same reason that you said. Still I love having them for more formal events --- the bag you posted though isn't so formal that a strap wouldn't look right on it.

If the strap is attached from inside of the clutch, it would work great.

YES. I did the same thing with a LV Limelight clutch. I loved the bag but can't stand clutches, lol! So I added a strap to it to make it useable...

I wouldn't, because I prefer clutches, but I think you could, as long as you used something at least as soft as the leather (so as not to mark it) and in leather, suede, or fabric (like the scarf Vintage Leather suggested).

I wouldn't permanently attach a strap, if I were you, as it might damage the bag and would certainly drastically reduce its resale value, if you ever decided to sell it.

If you were thinking of permanently attaching a strap, I'd say sell it, instead and just buy a similar bag with a strap.

If you do still want to permanently attach a strap, you could ask a professional to attach a couple of leather (similar to that of the bag) loops to the inside - on the fold where the underside of the flap meets the body of the bag and then ask them to make/provide a soft leather strap to thread through the loops.

That way, it could still be used as a clutch, as well.

I would. I would even add a cross-body strap to a clutch; it's so much easier and securely placed towards the front of my body everywhere I go.

Thanks everyone for such great ideas! I would try doing the loop thing and the chain strap idea. Now I just need to find someone to do it!
